Christian Eriksen

To be fair, I don't think Eriksen is right for us either, especially not defensively. Ini's better than him in that regard, he won a lot of tackles against Atleti.

But 1 league goal in 2 years is really bad, and don't give me crap about his position now. Even Rakitic dwarfs him in goals and assists. And even that aside, his final ball is woeful. This is not debatable anymore, he rarely contributes anything fruitful up front.

We need a CM who is gonna be able to do both.

The game vs Depor right now is showing what Iniesta is able to do in the final third. He is giving so much pre assists or 2nd final passes for clear cut chances, it is ridiculous.
Dude owns the final third.

"lol"

he literally only contributed to the second goal, a bog standard 10/15 yard pass to Messi who plays a killer ball that hardly anyone else could play. Not to mention that they were easily the worst defensive team we've played.

I mean, it's fine, rep your man, but he never owns the final third, and trying to back it up when we've just won 8-0 is a non-sequitur, especially when the stats (and by watching the games) show otherwise over the long term.

It was just the most recent example. He also had one his trademark diagonal balls behind the defense that Alves passed to Suarez who missed a clear cut chance.
When we play vs teams that park the bus Iniesta is usually the guy who manages to disrupt the defense by open up space through a dribble and more often by being involved in a quick passing combination to open up a teammate. Another move that he uses often is to play a short through ball from the corner of the box towards the goal line which also results in one of the rare opportunities to get behind a defense that is defending extremely deep.

Fair enough, and to be clear, I thought he had a good game too, and he has put in a good effort in most matches over the last month.

But when he's 30 yards out from goal, in that playmaking position when Messi drops out and they all come to close him down, we rarely get anything out of Iniesta. Against parked buses especially.

And distance shooting is definitely something the whole team needs to work, but especially Ini. It was quite telling against Atleti that after a while, our best way through was just having a shot at goal and letting the ball spilling.

Rakitić plays behind MSN. If that is not AM then what is Busq? If he had good shot he would score 20 goals per season because he is always in range of 25 m from the opponent's goal...

What are you saying?
Raki also has the really simple job of covering up for both Messi and Alves on the right flank.

A very smart player on and off the pitch - has made very good career-choices and are benefiting from it now :)

Of course I'm talking about the move from Middelfart to Odense Boldklub in Denmark :)giggle:),
when playing against me (!!) in Sanderum wasn't enough of a challenge anymore :tata:

Tottenham was the perfect step up from Ajax, and the title-contending Spurs this season is the right challenge for him right now.
I don't see why he would want to leave as long as Pochettino stays (and why wouldn't he?).

Agreed smart player who also works hard on the pitch. Can play wide or through the middle and I think would be a good signing. Barca needs more depth in the squad and Eriksen would be the type of signing to help with that.

Far too high price for what you get. He's at his correct level now. He is not an elite player. We can find much cheaper squad players elsewhere. I dont even see the point when we are recalling Denis anyway and we have Rafa, Arda and Roberto.

Nonsense. He shits all over your Lucas Limas and random flavor of the month prospects you name drop every now and then.

With the form Eriksen has been showing for the majority of this season, he could play for just about any club out there. I still wouldn't want him here, though, as he deserves to be the focal point of his team. And then there's the price of course. A young, top 3 playmaker from the EPL would cost a fortune.

You dont seem to understand the difference between suggesting a cheap 10m option and a massively expensive Eriksen who is not an elite player. Thats the problem with a lot of fans. They want super expensive players, preferrably from the EPL and mock any suggestion that we might be better off buying players who are available and can bring squad depth. If they havent heard about the player or if he is not playing in the EPL, or for a rich club, he must be crap. Fans want super expensive and they want big names. Well, then you get Arda Turan who you praised as a great purchase, a world class midfielder who would be amazing for us, while I got a lot of heat for suggesting that he is nothing special and would be a waste at that price.

Did you even read what I wrote? I don't want Eriksen, partly because he's too expensive. The only point I was refuting, was you claiming he's not an elite player.

You scoffed at the price of Arda and made up facts about him being third most expensive player at his age and questioned his ability to be worth the fee.

To me Arda has been nowhere near as bad as some people make out and he has become a bit of a scapegoat at times.

Lucho has not used him properly I think and Arda is still getting used to imposing himself on games. It took Suarez months, Neymar a year to get used to that.

Some of the players you mentioned as being alternatives were woeful and they were not 10m gambles.

As for Eriksen I wouldnt want Barca to sign him for this team but I would say he is as of now a better footballer than every Barcelona CM bar maybe Inesta. Only Iniesta has better ability on the ball but struggles physically these days and is invisible when defending.
