well to start i would put marquez in cause he is on his worst form and is about the same as marquez so lets hope he picks it up

Nostalgic for the days when our defense didn't suck, like...last year.

In all serious yeah Chyg obviously has more potential, but as far as this season goes Marquez finding form could do us a lot more good in the short term.

I was amazed we conceded without rafa on the pitch, to be honest.

but chysus every time.

not that we should get rid of rafa, but we know what he will give us. 99% of a perfect match and 1% of absolute retardation. that's his steez and we love/hate him for it. he won't be getting any better or worse. chysus, however, could get much better:

1. he's 21 so will improve with age
2. he's learning a new system so will improve will experience

both of these require him to play.

so, logically, chysus is the sensible choice.

which means I'm not at all surprised to see rafa winning the poll.

lol, we need somebody this season to step up and marquez for me is a better chance for that to happen

Meta, I know you think you are a genius, but Chyga could turn into Franco Barsei tomorrow :)lol:) and it won't change the fact that he can't play in Europe.

If Ukranian Jesus is half as good as Pep seems to think he is, he'll get there eventually, and if he could play with an on form Rafa in the Copa he'd be getting there much sooner as good-Rafa always makes the defense around him look better.

Chgy will improve in time for sure their is no doubt about that, like his brother said in this one article for El Mundo Deportivo that Chgy will need 2 months at least to get to the form that everyone wants to see from him. Hopefully his brother, who is his agent as well I believe, means his word.

chysus needs games to improve (rafa will only get worse as this season has thus far proven) and the more he plays the better for the club long-term because the quicker he will adapt to this new level. short-term it could maybe perhaps possibly leave us in a pickle, but in yaya touré we have a more than able stopgap CB, not to mention fontás and muniesa if we really get desperate.

but your logic is we should ignore the viable backups and stall the development of a promising young CB on the off-chance that piqué or puyol might be injured and our mexican centre-back (who will always screw up once a game regardless of how fit he is) will have to play in europe?

1. I'm sorry, but Toure at CB would ruin my heart. I would literally die if we had to play Chelsea in a do-or-die semi again with Toure as our CB. i love the man, but fuck, my blood pressure is already rising at the thought. plus I'm an alcoholic. wtf.

2. Based on the above point, Rafa needs to rediscover himself quickly. not to take minutes away from CNote, but just to offer a competent failsafe for injuries *knock on wood*. Playing CNote makes the most sense for the team long-term, and I have no problem with CNote starting every Liga game. But Rafa HAS to start next to Pique in the CL. They were a veritable wall when both were on form.

3. welcome back, Meta.

No, it's that I'd rather Chyga take his time as long as he shows development if it means we can get a proven defender who has contributed to 2/3 of our European Cups to play at the level he was even at last year. Odds are both are going to play this year either way and as long as Chyga shows he's more than a monument that can make decent passes I'd be willing to use him less if Marquez shows he an be more than a complete disaster the next time he plays.

If Rafa still has something left in the tank, you play for the present and not the future. Chyga will play this year either way, and all we should expect of him is making sure he shows signs that he can fit into the system or gets ready to be packaged to Benfica for David Luiz.
