Records broken today -

  • First UCL RO16 away win in 9 years
  • First UCL RO16 first leg win in 9 years
  • First UCL knockout clean sheet in 6 years
  • First team to win a UCL knockout game with 10 players for more than 69 minutes
  • Most saves by a Barça keeper without conceding a goal
Was about to say qsg last year but that was qf.

For Benfica, the game didn’t go as planned after the red card. Barca gave up possession, forcing Benfica to take the initiative instead of relying on transitions. But when they had the ball, they were mostly out of ideas.

It's not like they didn't have chances. They just finished extremly poorly and Tek had a top performance.

Crawled through the dirt for the victory, a little bit of needed luck was also on our side aswell as Tek who kept his cool like Alisson for Pool.

Flick: "I told the team that I was very proud of today's performance. They did great. It was not an easy game because of the red card."

Flick: "Cubarsí's red card? This happens in football matches, and it happened to us today. The most important thing is how we respond, and the reaction was very good."

Flick: "We had to make a decision, it was not easy... Also we needed Lewy for headers, and he defends very well upfront. And we needed Araujo as well."

Flick: "I think keeping a clean sheet with only ten players is very important. We have a really good goalkeeper, really special, and today he did an incredible performance, he saved us and kept a clean sheet."

Flick: "The tie it's not over yet. I know we're in a good position now, but I also know that anything is possible in football... The second leg will be complicated."

Kounde: "We knew how to suffer in this match. It was not what we wanted, but in the end, our response was great. We defended very well. I'm happy."

Kounde: "I think the midfielders and attackers are more tired than us defenders. We played with a low defensive block, so we didn't have to press high up the pitch."

Pedri: "Against Monaco we got a red card and didn't act in the best way, to be honest, but I feel we learned from that. Today we knew what we had to do. I'm very happy."

Pedri: "Cubarsí told us that he was devastated because of the red card... It's complicated, but we're going to support him in the dressing room. We are happy with him."

Pedri: "The team has learned and grown in maturity. We kept calm with one down, we knew what we had to do, we defended well."

Pedri: "I will give Szczęsny my MOTM trophy, we talked about it in the dressing room. He deserved it. He stopped everything today."

If Ter Stegen was GK for Barça/Liverpool tonight, both would have been beaten by 4+ goals. To win CL and go all the way, the GK is the biggest part of the puzzle, second part is having a competitive 10 outfield players and a good bench, tell me I’m wrong…
