FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of David Villa.

The deal is set to bring Barça a maximum of 5.1 million Euros, with 2.1 due this season, 2 more if Villa stays at Atletico next year and another million should he be at the Madrid club the season after. Barça also reserve the right to 50% of any sell on fee in the future.

Villa, who joined Barça in the summer of 2010, has played 119 times for the Club, scoring 48 goals: 33 in the Spanish League, 8 in the Champions League, 6 in the Spanish Cup and 1 in the Spanish Super Cup.

One of Villa’s first games with his new club could be against Barça in this season’s Spanish Super Cup between last season’s league and cup winners.

Just in case anyone missed this.

This was a bit of a 'sell of', not a sell...
His current value was somewhere close to 8-10m, not 5.1 that can be even 2.1 ...
Villa's case is another financial disaster for the club.. And it is exemplary of the non-existing policy on the matter..
Laporta bought him in 2010 for 40m, when he was already 29! His price back then was maximum 25m, and the management managed (!) to pay as much as Valencia wanted..
Beside that, when summer of 2011 Chelsea offered something like 30m for him, no one at the club considered this offer seriously.. Even though it was evident since second half of 10-11 that he was in decline. Even though everybody knew he was 30 years old, and even if there was a questionmark on whether he can play well for 1-2 more years (which never happened), no one thought that it is the right time and price to SELL, and buy too young wingers (instead of one that eventually came -> Alexis) for the future..

Hi, its me..
glad hes staying in spain, but it sucks that hes going for so little.

Great for Atleti, though. Sold falcao for 40m+ .. got Villa for less than 5

well, the fee is very very low, compared to the 40 mil. we paid 2010. But Villa will be 32 soon, he declined the last 1 1/2 year, he would not start any big games for barca ( and spain) anymore and there is a lot of money in his current barca contract, so you can add that to the transfer fee, lucky for athletico nevertheless!!!

thx David Villa, your first year at barca was all worth it!!!!!!!!!

What a terrible piece of business. Who ever was involved in negotiations needs a kick up the nuts. 5 million itself is a ridiculously low sum and even that they are paying in half!
Were they fucking drunk while doing the deal. Athletico earned in excess of 50 million off Falcao sale and they are being stingy to pay 5 million in full. Pathetic!

We really should have sold him for Arsenal back in January when they offered 12 million. I knew the price would come down drastically by summer.

Atletico never got anywhere near 50m for Falcao as they owned at best half of his rights and on top of that they have tax repayments to be made every summer.

What do people want the club to do if Villa states he will not leave Spain? Leave him on the bench at Barca?

If Villa will not leave the country then the club are in a tough spot.

The reason the fee is so low will be to allow Atletico to cover the wages.

We had a good bargaining position since it is crucial for Villa to play alot if he wants to be in the World Cup. He couldnt simply refuse to join a foreign team if he actually was interested in being part of the WC squad.
