Why would going abroad hurt his chances of going to the WC though? Torres still gets called up all the time & he plays in England & doesn't even play well most of the time. Silva & Mata play abroad & are regular call-ups, etc. As long as the club he goes to plays him regularly I don't see how it would matter (Fiorentina/Spurs are big enough clubs too).

I heard it more had to do with him not wanting to move his family abroad though.

Not sure how true it is about not wanting to move his family, seems more that he wanted CL football.

Very peculiar decisions made by this very awkward management.

Sell Villa for shit, the club got only 2.1 milions for him and keep Alexis like a sacred and very useful player !

How much do you think they should have got for him?

Yes, apparently, this was his wish and Barca just facilatated the move as he agreed to stay with squad during the last mercato when the Gunners were close to have him.Well, he deserves all the best. I quite happy that he chose A.M, another rival of our rival !

Plus, he's just making this up. Nobody's reporting this is part of the deal

The guys @ Colchonero are the ones heavily speculating on it, not me.

Rosell has an ulterior motive here and it wouldn't surprise me if this was it. While other are playing checkers, he's playing chess.

Why would they make it public? So we start a bidding war with Real Madrid, who is currently try to poach all the young Spanish talent this summer?

If he struggles to adapt to a different league(as has happened many a time) it could hurt his chances. Also Fiorentina and Spurs don't offer Champions League football.

Ok we are saving 11-13m on his salary, but we're losing a goddamn player. We now have Messi, Neymar, Sanchez, Tello, Pedro for the attack. Iniesta will likely stick to midfield if/ when thiago leaves.

5 is very very short for the front three.

Silver lining to a shitty rain cloud is that we keep 50% of Villa's rights. I don't know how that computes into numbers, maybe a few millions from marketing rights ( or are those separate? ) plus 50% or an eventual 2-8m sale. I mean best case scenario we get 12m over two or three years? That's both shitty and optimistic. Why couldn't we keep more of his rights ? Atletico are in no position to negotiate and this would not affect Villa

Barca is actually saving € 20M-ish on his salary. € 8 - € 11M is what Villa gets after tax.

I wouldn't say that's optimistic..I would say that's unrealistic. The best we will make for Villa is 5M(and that's assuming that ATM will be able to pay us because I read that this summer they have to pay 100M euros in debts).

If we get rid of Messi before he goes to prison Barca will actually save 150M euros. I don't know what's Rosell waiting for.

We can't sell Messi before NeyGOAT hits his peak. Too risky at the moment. Maybe in 2 or 3 years.

I would say that this is the perfect moment. I remember Rosell saying that he would have sold Ronaldinho after we won the CL in 2006 so if he really meant it than he should sell Messi before he goes to jail and use the money to buy Thiago Silva and Cavani.

Cesc can play false 9, Iniesta and Adriano can play on the wings too. There's lots of options. With Messi likely playing close to all the games it's mainly the two wing positions that need to be covered.

A very awkward business dealing, but the fact that he left makes sense. A great guy to have had on our team, gave us many good memories, and came back from a terrible injury. I wish him the very best!
