Betis with a 2-1 away win at Rayo, Athletic and Valencia are playing tonight.
Quite unbelievable what Pellegrini has done with Borja Iglesias and William Carvalho over the last year. They both looked like big money flops and Betis tried to sell them (but nobody wanted to buy them due to relatively high wages) but are now playing confidently and on a high level like the rest of the team. Juanmi has also finally stayed fit and is having a career year.
Still some work to do with this team, especially defensively and I think they should also bring younger players as most of their starters are close to or over 30 and will eventually need to be replaced. Only ones younger than 25 to get serious minutes are Edgar Gonzalez and Ruibal, I also quite like Rodri Sanchez who should get more important role in coming years. Still, even with an aging team for next season or two I think they'll be a serious contender for a top 4 finish.
As for Rayo, even getting to Copa semis after 40 years is a great achievement. Still have second game to play in three weeks and I'm sure they won't just give up and would be surprised if Betis wouldn't qualify for the big final but with away goals rule dropped everything is still possible.
