They were never going to back out from playing. Did exactly what they wanted and now the refs will be under even more pressure to be favourable towards Madrid.

This is a team that gets most fouls and most penalties and allthewhile their players bully refs, playact, make reckless tackles that rarely get punished.

It's a pathetic mentality considering the stature of the club.

First time, I agree with him:

This isn't football, it's power grabs. He doesn't like Thebes because it doesn't do what he wants. He doesn't like Ceferin because he doesn't do what he wants. He doesn't like Louzán because he doesn't do what he wants. He doesn't like TV commentators because they don't say what he wants. They do not want to move forward with the arbitration reform because it is not what he wants. (...) And now, after the referees' statements—fed up with the constant harassment from Real Madrid TV—he responds as he knows how: Suspends the press conference. He skips training at La Cartuja. He disdains the official acts of the Cup final. He leaks that he will not be present at the Cup final. What fine skin. He doesn't protest, he pushes. He doesn't complain, he threatens. He doesn't disagree, he punishes. He doesn't want to improve football, he wants his own football. And the worst thing is not that he tries. The serious thing is that many allow it, consent to it and help it.

A good post from a German user in Transfermarkt forum:

Based on another pathetic and undignified display of abuse toward the referees on the hate-mongering and propaganda channel RMTV, with an equally renewed attempt to rig the competition, Madrid is using its propaganda channels to claim that they will NOT play tomorrow's match if the referees aren't replaced. Maximum pressure, in other words, to influence the competition in their favor.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: this club is the epitome of a mafia-like organization that wants to achieve its goals through the most blatant manipulation. Such a dirty show is truly absolutely unique in recent history. No single club, I repeat, absolutely no club on this planet can afford what this bunch around Perez is pulling. Absolutely unbelievable. You simply can't believe it.

Edit: And Madrid actually follows up with a communiqué:

"Real Madrid considers the public statements made today by the referees for tomorrow's Copa del Rey final (April 26, 2025) to be unacceptable.

These objections, which surprisingly drew attention to videos from a media protected by freedom of expression such as Real Madrid TV – deliberately published 24 hours in advance against one of the finalists – demonstrate once again the clear and obvious animosity and hostility of these referees towards Real Madrid.

Even more astonishing statements, in threatening tones alluding to the referees' unity, were used to announce supposed measures or actions that are far removed from the principles of fairness, objectivity, and impartiality that should prevail just hours before a football event capturing the attention of hundreds of millions of people around the world.

"Given the seriousness of the incidents, Real Madrid hopes that those responsible for the RFEF and the refereeing profession will act accordingly and take the necessary measures to defend the prestige of the institutions they represent."
"

UNBELIEVABLE!

We repeat:

- Madrid is inciting hatred against referees.

- This practice has been used BEFORE matches for a good two years (with the obvious goal of rigging competitions).

- Freedom of expression is being invoked here.

- Now, before the final, a referee is reporting how his child is being branded in school because his father is a "thief." And he's referring to the hate-mongering and propaganda channel RMTV.

- Madrid is outraged by these statements of fact (!), which have largely resulted from this absolute culture of targeted referee incitement.

It's absolutely unbelievable. There's no integrity, no decency left. Perez and his gang aren't even feeling themselves anymore; it must be so hypocritical there.

Just saw the ref crying in a presser over this stunt, smfh. Honestly rather have Lahoz so we can we beat Vardrid proper without this crybaby.

When Vardrid's two goals down chance Vini intentionally gets a second yellow for dissing the ref. Of course he'll milk it all the way till ref has no choice.

Says a lot that even before the ball is kicked Perez and the rest of reals upper brass decided to try and strong arm the refs.

Very mafia like while also projecting weakness. It comes off as they don't believe the team can win so they decided to try and pull this shit.

Basically I hope the team uses this as motivation and beat the shit out of Real. Sending a message we don't need to strong arm refs into winning trophies.

They are basically admitting that they can't win without the help of the referees. As they have always done. They are not a serious football club and without corruption and referring bias they would not even be the biggest club in Madrid.

They only attract low self esteem individuals who want to be attached to some sort of winning even if that winning comes through cheating.

And a quick reminder that the man in the VAR room, which is arguably more important than the referee these days, is a guy that spent 8 minutes manipulating images so that Lewandowski's size 9's were size 17's to manufacture a fake offside.

Imagine that level of entitlement.

Madrid should save everyone precious time and energy and put out a statement saying they will only play the final if Gil Manzano is the chosen referee.

Mbappe still feels discomfort... got his deserved ban in the end if he doesn't play  Would rather face them with him in the team though.

We will either wash this Real team or it will be a battle. Everything else would surprise me.
