portugal is smashing sweden, poor ronnie between today, crotone and dynamo it would have been an hell of statpad week for him:valverde:

Then the result does tell you about Portugal's current strength. Even without Ronaldo, they are still verg good and sometime even better.

The defense is still strong, the midfield is decent and the attack, oh boy... They got so many good offensive players beside Ronaldo like Guedes, Bernado, Felix, Jotta, Bruno Fernandes etc. They are also good balanced considering the age of the players.

This is why I hate the common narrative that Ronaldo won Portugal the EURO. Portugal have always had a good team, before Ronaldo, and will after Ronaldo as well.

People pretend like Portugal is some kind of Estonia without Ronaldo. It's ridiculous. He wasn't even infuential during that Euro win and later the narrative was that Ronaldo won them the final by coaching from the sidelines. It's really stupid.

Its not a common narrative, its only a fantasy-narrative created by Barca-supporters, its not a thing.
Ronaldo had a couple of bad games, a couple of good games, played a part, but it was the defense + luck that bailed them out the most.

Also, no one pretends they are Estonia either.

Mostly true but it depends where you're looking. Football fans on twitter would have you believe he scored a maradona vs england-esque goal each game. A lot of football fans in england also say he carried them to it. Really isn't just some barca narrative.

He didnt score a Maradona-esque goal, no, great header against Wales though, but moving on.
I haven`t seen many saying he carried Portugal, though some of his fanboys use that national trophy as a stick to beat Messi with, but dont listen to those people.

It is natural though, that when things goes right, the big star gets favorable coverage, it happens with everyone, not just Ronaldo.
Another story is Modric, and i do love him, he was made out to be the saviour of Croatia in the last World Cup, when in fact, it was very much a team effort, just like with Portugal in 16.
