Football has the steepest declines for athletes out of any team sport, IMO.

There is simply no hiding once the legs go/get heavy.

The decline has been sharp this season, i must say, he hasn't been good against top opposition in a good while, but his first few months he still scored regulary against average opposition, now its just...nothing.

His first few months weren't near his peak form but they were basically just like a continuation of his decent Juve form. These last two months (since Ragnick came in) he has been much worse though.

His first couple of months he was coming in from the geriatric Serie A (and he still was doing nada against top EPL competition). But then, 3 months into the season, he ran out of gas against basically everybody, even mid-table tiers.

And there were people who thought he would score 40-50 goals in Pep's team. A team/manager who plays one of the most demanding, press intensive styles of football. Man would be needing supplemental oxygen within 2 weeks in that team at the age of 37

At 37 he should limit his games way more. Messi has done that better now actually. Might pay off for Leo later for the world cup imo.

Pep baited United into signing him, a masterstroke it must be said. United won't be able to get rid of him either, no top clubs will pay his wages, PSG have Messi and he can't go to the MLS for obvious reasons.

Messi was smart for once and went to a league where he can just coast and focus on CL/WC chances.

He already tore up LL when LL was the best league in the world with Barca/RM winning CLs, AM making CL finals, and Sevilla winning like 4 ELs?

He would have been too old for the EPL had he gone there and it would have killed him for the CL/WC, which is the only things that can add to his legacy right now. You really think people would credit Messi if he won a PL with say City or Chelsea?

It's harder to do that at MU though since they are fighting hard for top four and don't have much depth in attack anymore

Yeah, Greenwood is gone, Rashford hasn't been good for about 2 years now(?), and their two strikers can't really do it anymore.
Sancho has shown some promise recently, but its not enough.

Totally agree, he made the most logical choice for his CL/WC aspiration even if this would remove him in the spotlight for most of the season as he's playing in the Ligue 1.

Also a good move for him to put in his PSG contract to prioritize the national team.

Exactly! That's why Messi is lucky he left Barca. He would have to play every game.

Ronaldo played a few meaningless friendlies for Portugal trying to hunt goals. Hurts him now most likely.

PSG might bite. Messi and Ronaldo together. They always fancy big names, no matter how past it.
