Shameless cunt waiting for the 5th penalty to get all the glory, glad it backfired on him, if he was a true leader he would've shot one.

then he woulda been glorified for "leading" Portugal to the cup.that's how it's and it has always been.

Zidane is known for being the man who had singlehandedly won the world cup in 98 as if his telekinesis powers is what made Dilivio miss his penalty in the QF.

really poor leadership from ronaldo, especially considering he's portugal's captain.

he was invisible the whole match, too. didn't do anything.

I think people take this too seriously: Firstly penalty orders are written by the coaches on a note and can't be changed during the shootout. Coaches have differing approaches, but the general consensus is that 1st and 5th penalty are believed to be the hardest, so you shedule your best pen taker at those that you believe are the most crucial.

Normally the order for your first 5 takers is not THAT relevant so you can fit them in however you believe is the best. After all it pretty much never happens that a pen shootout is over at 3. My personal strategy would be fielding my best taker at 4th because I think that it get's hader with each pen, but there are few cases where the 4th is the last already so I don't wanna miss out on him. It's possible that Santos has also actually put him 4th, all we know is that he wasn't under the first 3.

sorry but i totally disagree with this. we ALL know how much of an egotistical twat he is, he wanted that 5th penalty so he could run off acting as if he won the world cup, shirt off doing his SIIIIII. he will most likely go to any length to make it all about him and it usually works; see Portugal and Eder wining them the Euros. :crbust:

If it was him scoring the 5th Headlines would be 'penaldo fires Portugal to finals' . Everyone knows that's what he wants except for the twats who are still supporting that egomaniac

Probably would but he also gets plenty of negative press when it doesnt work out like that and they go out.

No one is under any illusions about his ego.

The real question is: Do portuguese people actually feel "let down" by his decision to take the 5th penalty?
Because for now I only see people with little to no attachement to anyone involved act outraged about it.

It's still the coach who determines this. So even IF Ronaldo asks to be last, it is Santos who has the final say here. And if he thinks that it helps his team to let him shoot the latters, then so be it. His responsibility if it backfires as he suggested it/agreed to it. Being 5th can also mean that you miss it, then get stick for it. However, apparently noone here even assumes that this is a possibility, because Ronaldo is a secure pen taker and would thrill under that pressure and we all see him converting. Which is exactly why it would make sense to move him to a game winning opportunity when the pants-shitting peaks, no?

This is the first time, I've seen people debate about pen shoot orders. If you ask me, it is in no way to do with Ronaldo why his team mates fluffed it.
Sometimes this forum raises good points of criticism. Sometimes though, it's just scapegoating for the sake of scapegoating.
