As it currently stands Ronaldo has had the better career. Messi has more natural talent but that's his problem. He refuses to adapt his game.

With better squad planning this discussion wouldn't even happen. Messi is the best, but RM did an amazing job of surrounding CR7 with players that can highlight his abilities. Imagine if Messi had Kroos and Modric in mid after Xavi and Iniesta?

This would make sense if Messi didn't also win only with stacked teams. Both need great teams to win anything. I don't see any reason why Ronaldo would be better than Messi or vice-versa. Neither did enough to dominate their rival.

Probably so. 5 CLs as the main player in his team vs Messi's 3 is the clincher. But that doesn't mean he's the better player overall. That's impossible to say since Messi has plenty of records as well, not to mention a higher peak level than Ronaldo.

Up until and including 2015 Messi had a better career without question both individually and team accolades. However, from 2015-2020 Ronaldo has majorly narrowed the gap to the point they're just about even in terms of overall career success on a team basis.

Domestically Messi is better, in Europe Ronaldo since 2015 has been better.

honestly, the whole discussion stems from the insecurities of kids not wanting to be seen as losers on the internet. if you are not biased, it's easy to see that messi was the better player.

Without question individually Messi is the better player, the majority of professionals and ex-professionals mirror those thoughts too. Team accolades however have definitely fallen in Ronaldo's favour the last 5 years.

For me Messi was the far better player, ronaldo is a better winner and athlete. The thing everyone seems to forget about these two is that practically anytime they faced each other within a competition Messi came out on top. Ronaldo can claim a 2007/2008 UCL semi final with united (Paul scholes wonder goal + pre pep clearout), he has that copa del rey header and 2 la ligas. Messi comes out on top in almost all the other instances they faced each other in a competition including UCL final and semi final.

This whole ronaldo has crazy drive thing should be looked at as well. He's always had something to be motivated towards: catching up with Messi. Far easier to be motivated when there's an obvious goal in sight instead of simply remaining at the top.

just a personal opinion: i think this is because messi has done more extraordinary things with a football than ronaldo. ronaldo has been a machine, a ruthless performer. but messi outshines him in the "moments of magic" department.

also, pure talent will always be more appreciated by fellow professionals. because it is something you are born with and not something that can be trained/learned.

Messi's career as a whole is of course better. Just because CR, for the first time actually, is better at this moment in time doesn't mean you have to go all overboard... ffs

why? they go there and get paid for it. nobody cares about that award anyway.

not much of a difference to messi doing tricks on japanese television.
