Why not?
http://sport.wp.pl/kat,1040437,titl...rzecietna-druzyna,wid,16702032,wiadomosc.html -> 98,36% of people thinks he said the right thing. So whats so strange about it? You people just live on another planet.

Bullshit. He said that they werent strong enough as a team, including him. Cant you read?

Jesus lad you are completely missing the point. He's the captain and should take responsibility, instead he calls his team average and blames his own performance in injury... it's not about whether he is right or wrong. Take off you Madrid tinted glasses. The guy just sold his team - mates down the river.

Ronaldo has a problem. He is too honest, speaking what he exactly feels, which shows a possible lack of maturity belying his 30 years (or maybe he just doesn't give a shit). It's a quality that I personally admire and want in my friends, but not one befitting of a captain. I never understand the concept of giving the captaincy to your best player.

@DonAK: Make no mistake though, uttering buzzwords like belief, we can do it etc would've made no difference at this point either. You can definitely motivate your team by speaking the harsh truth to the press, but I'm sure that was not Ronaldo's intention. Guy just doesn't know what to say.

Nice hair tho.

That's the point. I'm sure Messi knows his nt is not the best, but he won't say that to the press. That's not what a captain does.

Turson, If you ask me, I would never put CR7 and Messi in comparison, never ever. I will always agree that Ronaldo is hard working fellow, no one can deny that, but Messi is made for football, just pure talent.
CR7 can be compared to Suarez, Robben, Zlatan, etc. Messi is just something else and that won't go away.

You are very intelligent.

Would you seriously like that people say exactly what they feel? That would most likely ruin civilization - the world need Lies and dishonesty to function properly. Brute fact, but in the end of the day Its the willingness to not say everything that saves us;)

That's no news. We know that already for several years.

You have no idea what Messi would say if they were dead last in their group and the type of questions he will be asked by the journalists. What specifically was Ronaldo asked anyway? He just uses harsh words to answer questions, which admittedly is not a great idea. When Barca were trophyless this season, Messi said the team lacked quality at the end and was exhausted and that it wasn't easy for him because of injuries and other things outside of football. Not too different to what Ronaldo said, just not as harsh as he was.

Using Messi as a benchmark for a good captain is as stood as appointing him as a captain.

I don't disagree with you, but in personal relationships, yeah I prefer honesty, and so do most people

He also said that before, when HE was playing badly with Argentina, the return to Barcelona was of help for him to play good again..and this time he hopes that it will be the other way around. So I don't see the need to crucify Messi just to defend Cristiano.
And you say that you don't know what Messi would do if he would be last in his group..at least he wouldn't say that Cristiano was also eliminated, like the portuguese did in 2012, at the EC.

He was asked about argentina's recent poor displays. He said they know they can do better.

And about Barça, he didn't say they lacked quality, he said they lacked the energy:

“It wasn’t my best year. I would’ve liked to finish in another way but for the whole group, not just on an individual level, the entire team was exhausted. After a difficult year, we had a chance to win La Liga but we couldn’t. I went through a lot of things personally; it wasn’t easy because of the injuries and other things outside of football, as well. But this is how it ended and I have to think about what’s to come.”

It's not to defend Ronaldo, it's in response to the claim that Messi would never say negative stuff about the team

I agree. A mature captain would have said 'we were not good enough today and we only have ourselves to blame'. Notice how I highlighted the we part, the problem I have with Ronaldo is he didn't take his part of the blame. He said the team was too average, but even an average team should be the USA. Ronaldo is the key compnoent of the team that lost, he had as big a role as anyway in that display last night... but he won't admit that. You win as a team and you lose as a team, unless your name is Cristiano or Jose.

I do not find his honesty admirable as he is not honest enough to take his share of the blame.

And in 2012 he blamed himself for our elimination against Chelsea..and we all know that Messi is no angel, but atleast he isn't the kind of person who only celebrates his goal in a CL final and then blames his failures on the rest of his teammates at a WC.
