It plays a part for sure, but lack of trophies have not been a hindrance for either in the past.

In the past yes, nowadays winning major trophies is one of the most important prerequisites for the BD. Particularly in a non-WC year, winning the CL is huge, and to a lesser degree, the league.
And I don't see us winning either, unfortunately for Messi.

That's why Ribery, who won everything that particular year was third behind CR7 and Messi.
I am not a fan of Ribery, but the Ballon d'Or is a joke. Not even winning trophies is enough as proven that year.
Ribery is not flashy enough. Is not talented enough. Sure. But he won everything. yet he was ditched.

Considering the level Messi and Ronaldo are showing it's impossible for another player to win BDO,especially if the 'other' player wasn't even the best from his own team.

Agreed that BD has become a joke these days, and one of the reasons is it takes a GIGANTIC effort to unseat Messi and Ronaldo these days.
I should have made it clear: If your name is not Messi or Ronaldo, winning major trophies will not guarantee you the BD. And if your name is Messi or Ronaldo, winning major trophies will be crucial in your chances of getting the BD.

No hes not. You like the sound of his voice. That doesnt make him technically good.
A painting can end up looking nice, while it was a mess a painted by a talentless nobody. Theres a difference.
