As amazing a goalscorer as he is, he's far less effective in front of goal when a team actually defends properly. He was gifted a bunch of goals by Schalke in the last round who are shocking defensively for the highest level. Not to mention to Granada type sides who don't even try and stop him, compared to 4 or 5 players around Messi whenever he gets the ball.
