I don't have big problem with Ronaldo winning ballon d'or this year. Messi and Ronaldo performed equally imo but Ronaldo won very important trophies. If Argentina won the WC then there would have been a great chance for messi. Neur does not deserve ballon d'or I am completely amazed how he got nominated before Robben. At least he does not cry like Ribery, thank you Neuer you are still the best goalie don't make me hate you. He was just unlucky to be part of messi and Ronaldo generation.

For fights and dirty play, agreed, he is far from the worst. But it's the general tone that he often displays on the field- just comes off like a spoiled 10 year old, very off-putting, and unfortunately, overshadows his talents (for me).

Why would you not count penalties, penalties are a part of the game. And why would you turn a discussion about Benzema & Ronaldo into Messi vs Ronaldo?

For the 100000 time, this is neither Ronaldos best year or Messis worst year, going by the numbers. Last year was Ronaldos best, last year was Messis worse than this. If you look at each year since 2009, there isnt much difference between them statistically other than the freak year by Messi. The trend over this 5 years have been very close in terms of goals, Messi picking up more assist. Now, the best player isnt solely about numbers, but you brought it up. Its also worth noting that Messi have 6 more matches than Ronaldo.

If Ronaldo's stats are slightly better than why is he considered such a clear favourite this time? Invisible yet scores goals, plays no important part in big matches, the team would have won the same finals without him, couldnt help Portugal. So what makes him such a clear favourite besides the third most annoying pr campaign in football history?

Its 6 less games, actually. Still better stats, and the team won the trophies. I dont personally think Messi have been worse than Ronaldo this year, since its so close between them(imo) the trophies will be the cutting edge for Ronaldo.
