I don't understand why people here are using CR's level in the last couple of years as some sort of determinant of his overall ability and legacy - completely disregarding the previous 7 or so years of his career prior to that. It's like using R9's last couple of seasons in the game where he was a nothing player after multiple knee injuries as some sort of measure of his ability or even Ronaldinho after he lost his stride and went to serie A. (CR even now is leaps and bounds above these players when they were his age).
Peak CR from 2006-2012 was one of the most exciting players around especially in his last few years at man Utd, could pull of the most audacious pieces of skill, beat 3-4 players at a time etc. Peak CR was a superb dribbler and an excellent free kick taker. He carried United for a period of time between 2007-2008. A 22 year old Ronaldo beat prime Drogba to the PFA player of the year back before he was anywhere near being the goalscoring machine he is today. So the notion that he's nothing without goals are ironic as he was already making a mark on the game with his ability as a young player long before the goals.
The only thing he was never particularly great at was passing (when compared to Messi) and even then often led the PL in assists alongside fabregas. Remember he started as an orthodox RW?
So it really makes no sense how some people think history will/should remember him as a goal poacher and nothing more..
To say iniesta is a better player in this generation is ludicrous imo and I rate the Catalan man.
