Maicon by far... The best RB in the world, Alves as second in my choise..

Why, well like this.. It is not because Miacon plays for inter, probably will weare Real Merda jersey next year.
So, Maicon is better at crossing, defending, faster, stronger.. Alves is slightly better in technical aspect of the game, he is better dribbler. Not that maicon is bad at dribbling, but dani is better..

Overall, Maicon, 10 empty places, than Alves, 10 more empty places, and all other RBs... :)

@dalitis, maicon can play anywhere on the right flank, RB, RWB, RM, RW... But not in the middle as a DM, he will run towards the touchline and would leave too much empty place in the defense.. No way he can play in the middle.

Dani Alves is a very good football player, who of course has his bad days sometimes. But at overall (and season long) he's giving you so much passion and positive emotions, that you tend to forgive him every bad cross or bad positioning he's making. You just know that it happens, but you're accepting it, because he deserves it.

Maicon, on the other hand - is a freak of nature. He's not just a good, very good or an excellent player. He's just a freak.

they're different players that suit different styles of play.

maicon is better suited for dunga's brazil, which is why he starts.

if brazil played a more "classical" brazilian style, i.e. 1982, dani would be better.

I disagree in any style of brazilian football Maicon would be chosen ahead of Alves IMO. I just think Maicon is more a complete a right back than Alves.

But another point, why not play Alves on the left? I would have tested that in a friendly to see what this would do and how it will work out. As Alves has a lot to offer.

he may be more "complete" but that doesn't make him more suited to a classical brazilian style of play.

watch the way dani plays, it's totally samba style.

and I suppose because he's not a leftie, and the left-sided attacker is already cutting in on his right. plus, really, for dunga's style of football dani is such an ideal supersub. recall the confederations cup semi-final that he won from the bench.

honestly, not being biased, Maicon is much better, he gets forward as well as Alves, scores and he is good defensively

IMO Maicon is better. What makes him scary is that he's probably the best RB that can defend and the best RB that can attack.

Dani Alves can do both; however, he's less balanced.

@Meta, change your Jong Tae-Se pic to the one where he's crying...

How do you judge who is better? They are both suited to two different styles and if Maicon played in Barcelona I don't think he will cope with not being as involved nor the speed. Maicon provides play making right from his RB position while Alves provides support. Defensively Maicon can be slightly better but the formation he plays in is also conservative. I have long said I preferred Maicon, I think he is a better footballer but the sudden shift in opinions is questionable. With the ball, Maicon is better but off the ball, Alves has a good reading of the game and can run behind defenders.

In Inter's system, they need someone to carry the ball from the back line to the front because the lack a lot of play making ability or passing finess, same with Brazil. However, if you have good passers of the ball, Alves can pass the ball a lot quicker and move faster behind a defender. Do you think Maicon would have done well at Seville? I think he would have slowed down their movement.

As a footballer I love Maicon a lot more and I think he is better but this isn't street football, you are only as good as the service provide that satisfies the system's needs. Brazil needs Maicon and that is why he is there ahead of Dani Alves.

How did you guys come up with Maicon's bad attitude?

That was interesting to see both of them start against Chile...and it definitely showed that Dani Alves is much more versatile than Maicon...but Maicon is the better of the two when it comes to crossing and movement, not to mention DEFENDING since they are defenders on paper.

Playing at right-back Maicon edges it for me. I think Alves is good but Maicon is a more complete player for that position.
