Okay, with WC 2010 coming up, this is a very hot question lately.

Most of the people mention these two brazilians' names, when they are being asked about who's the best right back in the game right now.

Dani Alves and Maicon are out of question awesome, very skillful and really dominant players for their clubs, but both of them could regret about one thing - they're representing one country, which means that one of them will be sitting on the bench, and the other one will be representing Brazil on the pitch during the World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

For now Dunga is choosing Maicon as his first choice about the RB position and many people are approving that, some of course do not. Some think Maicon is better, some think Dani is. I'm waiting for your answers, but please - be objective and don't vote for the 'our guy', just because he's ours :)

The Oleguer choice was too tempting...

I perfer Alves, but Dunga will select Maicon so its a lost cause.

They are both great players without a doubt, they both terrorize the defence every-time they play in a game. This is a hard choice for Dunga to choose, who to play in the RB position. But I think imo, Alves edges Maicon by a little, goal scoring wise and centering.

Their styles is very similar to one another. Its hard to chose between them but Id go with Alves (maybe because I watch him week in week out and always impressed with him). From what Ive seen Id say:

Attack: Both
Defense: Maicon
Stamina: ALVES
Crosses: Alves
Shots: Alves for shizzle
Scoring: Maicon
Speed: Alves
Not caught out-of-position: Maicon
Dribbling/Skills: both (not important for a defender)
Giving very weird/strange/creep/disturbing faces: Maicon edges Alves

The thing is that both their styles are very, very, very close to each other and no one is superior to the other in any department, they only edge each other.
il go with the one and only Alves because of his speed.

Maicon is better in my book because he is more balanced. Both are definitely great in attack and terrorize the defense everytime they step up field. Maicon has the edge in defending and marking while Alves is better at attacking in general. Consider they are still playing in the back line, not being caught out of position and defending are also important attributes.

Dani Alves would work better for Brazil if they had possession 70% of the time like we do... that way, Dani Alves will defend less.

I voted Maicon as he's a better defender. But hopefully he uses Dani as a right winger, then everyone wins :D

Both are extremely strong players, and w/out doubt the two best on their pos. They are also very different. For Brazil i would also prefer Maicon, b/c hes stronger in defense and generally a rather straight player, i.e. less tricky. Brazil offers enough there already, thus id say Maicon makes up for a better mix and i think he also fits more into Dungas also rather straight and conventional approach.

For Barca with Abidal on the left id prefer Alves. Altough for a perfect defensive setup i actually would go for Maicon instead due to the huge availability of offensive LBs. A pair of like Maicon and maybe Lahm, Evra or Cole on the other side could be optimal. This is due to our offensive setup, with the tricky Messi on the lright and a rather straight player like Henry or possibly Bojan or even Villa on the left. Then you have an agile LB to cut in, draw defenders on him and send Henry (or any of the other mentioned) up the channel from deep. I think it much more complementary than our current combinations of FBs and Wingers on the flanks. Just and idea though.

I also prefer Maicon especially that Brazil LB position are all attacking FB , Maicon is a monster in both fronts while Alves is a machine going forward.

Maicon has the advantage of his physique, that's about it for me.

I personally would pick Alves but I cannot make a case why not picking Maicon. :)
