Ah the old myth that Alves cant defend just because he spends more time upfront. I'm with Gneg, his physique aside I dont think maicon is superior to Dani in any aspect of the game. Alves can mark the shit out fo wingers when asked to, and very few can beat him in one on one situations. As for Maicon, I'd like to refer you to.....:pedro:

Both have their attributes, obviously I would rate Dani higher...But Maicon has his strengths too, particularly his physical strength...I will say, as well, that Maicon has suffered a dip in form this season...Often caught not tracking back enough (Perhaps symptomatic of their anemic midfield)...I think Bosingwa has to enter into this comparison too

alves is a better player in attack and defence.

maicon is physically stronger so able to cover himself (basically he's like abidal in terms of his defending) but he's not much better than alves in that aspect. pedro repeatedly turned him inside out, for example. when dani wants to defend, he's can do it. it's just he often doesn't want/need to.

Maricón is just a thug, screw him.

I would go for Alves, a real football player, who actually has the skill to amaze. That is usually what best in the world comes down to.

Alves. Love his passion, and yes he is a way better defender than Maicon to be honest ( his stamina helps him to keep up with every attacker and go back and forth for like eternity), Maicon only beats him when it comes to those endless runs, but who cares. + Alvez is cool, Maicon looks like a fucking mole and he's always spitting tons of saliva when talking.

The Oleguer option is so tempting.

Oleguer doesn't defend. Oleguer kills.

I never quite understand why all the hype about Maicon. He loses 95% of the balls he touches, seriously, ( I know because since Eto'o moved to Inter I watch all their games) and last weekend at the Italian classico Maicon missed out on a chance of turning himself into an Inter Legend: Imagine he was alone with the goalkeeper before the goal-posts in the 95th minute and missed. This after Ronaldinho's penalty had been stopped in the 94th minute by a nine-man Inter Milan. Even I would have scored that goal.

Maicon and Dani Alves are worlds apart. Don't forget it was a day after Dani scored that amazing goal that even left HIM surprised. My vote is Dani's and it has nothing to do with his being an FCB player. Just plain on the pitch performance.

Alves is just lucky that Oleguer chose to ressurect Ajax's dusty european glory. Otherwise, he'd be on his way back to Sevilla or maybe trying to catch up Santi Ezquerro in terms of benchwarming.
