Daniel Alves

I can't believe what I'm reading... are you guys jerking my chain or what? Yes, I am dead serious. He was horrendous.

I agree with you completely, I thought he was pretty bad too. Guess people not noticing means the team as a whole are playing well :D

If it was Arbeloa or whoever, I probably wouldn't be so hard on them, but for a player who's been named the best RB in the world for several years in a row, yes he was pretty terrible.

WTF is it with the Dani hate? Guess someone has to get hated on when we do well.

He was good today, made some superb links up Thiago and Messi. Sure he blew a few crosses but what the hey it's Dani. Love his energy.

Alves has never been great in the final third. He stretches the pitch width and also provides good 1-2s in buildup, but his crosses and strikes are hit or miss (mostly miss), his 1v1 dribbling is not good enough to take on most defenders on the goal line. At his best, he makes some good cutback passes in the box. Alba spoils us, and shows what Dani is not, both technically and in decision-making.

Good point about Alba. In addition to Alves' bad form this season, Alba must be another reason why Alves just doesn't seem as good as before.

BTW Did I mention the incredible number of times Pique had to cover Alves' spot because Alves was out of position? He's getting lazy and is far from giving it his best.

It's not just a few misplaced passes or crosses here and there. He was looking as wasteful as Alexis tonight and that is saying something. It's just that the entire team was playing great so it kind of masked Alves's mistakes. I can guarantee you he would be criticized a lot more if this were a tight match where we couldn't afford to waste any chances. Obviously one bad game doesn't mean he should be benched completely or sold. But when Montoya/Adriano are on great form and Alves is indeed coming off an injury, it isn't the worst idea to bench him for the next game and give playing time to others.

He was horrendous.

One does not speak like that about a Ballon d'Or winner.

i would agree that he is not very good in final third, especially dribbling past defenders. but you can't say his crosses are bad when he is one of the best provider in recent years. yes he has some blunders, sometimes even toooften but thats only because he tries to whip them into box with real pace, so he takes risks. he does the right thing because the delivery must be very very good when you have so small players there. i don't really get the blame here, perhaps it's because he has actually raised the level so high that people can really appreciate his work any more.
