Is it possible for Denis to be a sub for the MSN? I know in Villareal he was more of a CAM but is he capable of playing on the wings?

He did play on the wing for Villarreal. They play 4-4-2 with wide players in midfield playing further up than cms.
He is much closer to play Neymar position than Iniesta's.

He was playing LM in Villareal regularly, that's basically our version of LW, ours being an even more attacking role obviously, so i guess he might even be more suited for Neymar's LW position, although i do hope he'll play Iniesta's CM/CAM position just as much, if not more, since we'll obviously need a replacement there sooner due to Iniesta's age.

I'd say he would probably play like Iniesta did under the first half of Tito's season, when he's deployed on the LW.

About his role at Villarreal. He played on the wing but his role wasn't really that of what usually wingers do in traditional 4-4-2 systems. Look at this video from 2:05 where he talks about that.

"You are the only team that played 4-4-2. Two out and out strikers, not 4-2-3-1"

"4-4-2 with wingers who are midfielders. Jonathan played on one side and me on the other."

He sees himself as a midfielder and hopefully Lucho will too. Yes, he can play LW here but I see him as our longterm replacement for Iniesta and hope he'll get the most minutes in his position. His talent would be wasted if he's only a backup to our (still the youngest) starter (Ney). We need to find out if he can be Iniesta successor over the next two seasons. I truly believe he can, he just needs to get a chance. In the meantime he needs to learn as much as possible from don Andres.

Interesting.
If so, we will see if he has positional awareness to play more centrally as that's completely different than playing the line.

tbh It is one of the issue with Denis,4-4-2 they are playing is closer to Atletico where the wingers are half wingers/half midfielders.
There is no identical position for that in Barca, his role as winger or midfielder is different. For me i think next year i would be easier for him to be integrated in the team as LW while getting some minutes from Iniesta too
After that we see how he develops as AM

These videos are kind of weird. I feel like I'm watching a trailer for some French arthouse film. Portrait d'un homme solitaire, a new film by Luc Prétentieux.
