Edinson Cavani

Griezmann: 9 goals
Suarez: 13 goals
Neymar: 6 goals
Cavani: 22 goals

And they've all had about the same amount of games (20, 20, 17, 21)

No disrespect but if I make this sort of claim i am aware of the numbers. Look at goals per game, assists per game, total shots per game and % of total shots inside the area, and you will see they are awfully close when one is supposed to be thriving and the three others are supposed to be in a slump.

He's a glorified Higuain. A quality striker but bottles big games and stat pads in a weak league.

It's no point knocking hat-tricks in against Metz or whoever if you don't turn up for big CL games. In that respect he's the heir to Ibra.

Doubt you ever watch PSG. Cavani has missed sitters across the board, he's actually better in big games.

A glorified Andy Cole then. Great positional play and movement but a terrible finisher.

Suarez's finishing can be bad but he has a better big game record than Cavani.

Griezmann, Suarez and Neymar are also supposedly top 5-6 players in the world while Cavani is 'crap'. And isn't this whole discussion about scoring? Cavani takes more shots than those three but Suárez is pretty close. He takes 1.5 times as many shots as Neymar and Griezmann. But he scores more than twice as much as both of them. 3 times as much as Neymar. Cavani's numbers this season are good.

I can repeat myself as many times as necessary, Griezmann, Suarez and Neymar are having a shit season so far, Cavani a supposedly world-class one -the numbers show how wrong that picture is. Don't know why we should only look at goals, that's absurd. Finally, for anyone interested in calling Cavani a better finisher than hell, even Neymar, just look at his missed chances this season.

How can you say that when PSG dropped 15 points compared to 18 for the whole of last season....

because football is a team game consisting of 11 players participating and your More-goals-than-games striker is the last you should put the blame on, because he is actually doing his job very fucking great.

Maybe it looks that way when one isn't actually watching the games. Fact is Cavani has consisently bottled great chances in games where PSG dropped points. He's far from the only problem, Di Maria and Moura don't play well, but no one ever said otherwise.

There haven't been too many top opposition he has played yet, but he scored once in each of the three games against Arsenal and Monaco. Also scored twice vs Ligue Un leader Nice this weekend and another 2 against Lyon some weeks ago, scored against Stade Rennes just prior to that (so basically in every game against the leading 5 teams aswell as all CL opponemts to this day).
Of course Barca is a different calibre but this "new Cavani 2.0" has so far not shown signs of bottling in the more important games and who knows if he'll start when Barca comes.

I was at the away Arsenal game. Cavani was awful. He didn't do anything really to help PSG, his goal was a tap-in which went off his shin when he meant to hit it with his leg, and he missed 3 clear chances to win the game (header in front of goal, 1v1 where he decided to do a weak chip, and a regular shot from inside the box). He also missed every single shot during the warmup.

He is far more likely to bottle it than to score. And against better opposition, he will not get many chances to waste.

brilliant example about what I'm talking about. All these chances, or most of them were results of his movement, without him there wouldn't even be anything to miss and we wouldn't even have to talk about them. Cavani in a nutshell. But since he does score at least once in the end he still manages to compensate quality with quantity.

He giveth, the taketh away.

aren't most chances for a CF a "result of his movement" ? Cavani is a great header, moves well and is tireless, but he's a bad finisher with no dribbling skills. These Arsenal highlights mostly underline that.

It's a bit like Penaldo. People look at his goals record but he misses stacks of easy chances as well, but he does get so many chances because of his movement

Cavani though has always flopped on the big stage.

First of all, you got the wrong Arsenal game. I was talking about the 2-2 draw at Emirates. Secondly, the chances here (and the game I'm talking about) are less his movement, more PSG's creative output and Arsenal's ineptitude. The main point was that Cavani will not be able to compensate quality with quantity against big teams because that quantity will be at a premium in those games.

What are you on about? Ronaldo is in the top 2-3 best finishers in the game, some may even consider him the best. Not in the least like Cavani.

Isn't Arsenal a top team? Or are you among those, that refer only 3-5 teams worldwide to the term "top teams"? Of course chances are rarer there, but even those teams have defensive ineptitudes. Does Barca really look that solid at the back to you? Even against these teams having a striker that creates chances by bare movement will eventually boost the quantity from "few" to "not that few anymore". Every chance matters, and luck plays a role, Cavani might just aswell score 1 goal out of 1 chance he has. There is no rule or law that is forbidding that. Hell, there are far worse striker who have scored against top teams, but Cavani must flop? What are you basing such an assumption on?

Arsenal are a top team in the UK but average team in Europe.
