All time leading goalscorer of his NT at 24, lol

The number of records he's going to break by the end of his career will give him a pretty nice spot in the history of this sport

It seems there are lot of statistically impressive players now days that have weak personality thus preventing them impact crucial games on higher level, which will be their road to oblivion. Nobody will give a shit about some random guy x, who had y goals, if he doesn't cement his place in history of sport with memorable performances in cup matches and big title winning teams (League titles by domineering teams are not "big", whether current City or Barca/Real in ll) or mesmerize with extraordinary skills that no other could replicate. Also need to add the sheer amount of matches played in modern sportball compared to decades ago. All these stats become fluff in that perspective.

Good post, especially bolded. They play so many games that even guys like Lukaku and others have scored more goals at international level (or will) than lads like Pele or G Muller. The separation of Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union into much smaller states (many of which are poor quality teams, though some are decent) has led to teams shooting fish in a barrel. Then there's the usual minnows now who weren't about to play in qualifiers back then, like Andorra, San Marino etc.

Wikipedia talks some amount of bollocks. Noel Gallagher clearly edited this:

'
A prolific goalscorer and widely regarded as one of the best players in the world, Haaland has all the attributes of a complete centre-forward.[169][170][171] He uses his sizeable frame to hold play up effectively and involve others. He has the pace and clever movement to run in behind, he can dribble and create, and he can finish with both feet and his head. He usually comes deep to collect the ball to help his team build play, often looking to spread the ball wide for a teammate, before turning and sprinting towards goal. He sometimes comes too deep for the defenders to follow him; as such he has the awareness to turn on the ball and create from a forward-facing position. In the penalty area he makes small, sharp movements to spot an opportunity for a teammate to attempt to find him in space, and can change the line on which he is running and accelerate into that space, making him extremely difficult for defenders to read.[172][173]

Haaland uses his body well when playing with his back to goal, protecting the ball effectively as he tries to bring it under control. He uses his strength to secure possession when under pressure and is also effective in providing his team's defenders with some respite following a clearance. His creativity is most apparent when he drifts into the left inside channel. His primary aim is always to get a shot off, but he also has the vision and skill to pick out a delayed run from midfield in the centre. His ability to carry the ball at pace also helps create for others, especially on the counter-attack.[174][175] Even though he is less involved in possession than a typical striker, his calmness, patience, timing, and off-the-ball movement have a huge impact in build-up plays.'

He's become an exaggerated version of himself. People have often said all he does is score, that kind of thing, and I'd always think so what?

It's noticeable how he's become less and less inolved with each passing season. Here's his touches per 90 career trajectory from league games, most recent at the bottom.

Down to 19.3 touches while penatly area touches at a career high. Didn't watch last night, just the 14 touches in the whole game apparently.

Jamie Vardy is the only player in the entire league who touches the ball less if we ignore the players with tiny sample sizes. There's 455 players on that list in total. Vardy an older player trying to preserve his energy playing in a weak team.

Haaland looks a bit flat-footed to me when I have seen him lately, as though he could be playing through injury or is just exhausted. Bad move letting Alvarez go and not buying someone to share the load. No surprise at all if they get someone in January, they need it. Regardless of that, he'll still score a ton due to amount of chances / those penalty area touches which are elite level. When not scoring he really does offer nothing at the moment more than ever before.

Good post

His all around game might be a bit better in a team that plays on the counter or at least more direct. With Dortmund, he seemed to have a bigger impact beyond the goals when there was more space, but that opportunity rarely happens at City due to how they play and how opponents sit deep against them.

Lukaku was kind of similar where he was useless in general play for Chelsea in their slow possession style but a beast at times for Inter on the break, although quality of league is also a factor.

A lot of chatter about him renewing his contract. City is refusing to accept his current buyout to remain the same, they want no buyout but it seems they will agree on a bigger one.

When/if signed, we can move on from the Haaland dream.
