Ernesto Valverde - V1

Improvin' Perfection!!
Wow.

Every Manager in the World: I only care about the next match, I don't think about the one after that.

Valverde: I was thinking about Valencia before the Roma game.

Funny how we only scraped this win against Valencia, not to mention we were humiliated against Roma!

I never ever wanted us to lose but I think Wednesday's game against Celta would be a perfect opportunity to end this "invincible league play" charade.

Real Madrid won 5 CLs with mostly short and technical players.

Puskas 1.72m

Di Stefano 1.78m.

Francisco Gento 1.71m

Jose Maria Vidal 1.79m

Jose Maria Zarraga 1.79m

Their attack and midfield

Where are the strong, powerful players that won Real Madrid all those CL titles that our players couldn't win?
@BBZ8800

Heck one of their defenders Pachin was 1.76m lol.

I have more posts to reply about height.
I have just clicked "mentions" on my profile to see who is trolling after Roma.

Anyway, about your post, I hope that you do know that an average height is higher and higher in each decade due to a different food and modern era.
Check here, for example:
https://ourworldindata.org/human-height

So, guys in 60s who were winning trophies, were born around 1940'.
An average height in France for guys born in 1940 was 171,7.
For example, if you were a 180cm in 60s, you were among tallest guys.
If you were 190cm then, you were a giant.
While, if you are 180cm today, you are average in Europe. Or, with 180cm, you are below average in Scandinavia, Netherlands, Southern-East part of Europe (Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia etc).
And 190cm is somewhat above average in Europe, but not as tall in 1960s.

So, Real's guys were quite taller than the average guys then.
By 1980, an average height raised to 176,5 cm in France.
And in the last couple of decades, it exploded way faster than before.

So, you can add freely 2-3 cms for years between 1980 and let's say 1990-1995.
That means that those Real's players would be 7-8 cm taller today, in a current era.

So, basically, these players which you mentioned actually had:
179
185
178
186
186

So, more or less, you proved my theory that you need to have at least average height and strength to dominate a CL.
So, thanks for proving my theory.
RM won 5 CLs in a row with players who were way above average height for that era.

He could very well lift a golden trophy, a historic and unprecedented achievement, which will not be replicated the next 100 years. And still be hated be us as a fan-group.
Tough job being Barca-coach.. I wonder if future coaches will consider if they should really take the job a second time, if we truly evolve into Real Madrid 2002 and fire our coach after winning the league because it was in a too pragmatic way.

Anyway, if Real goes out to Bayern, barcafans will feel more secure about themselves and will realize that he is not a big fat villain in this game, but made extraordinary things given the squad he had. I'm not hoping he stays for many years, but I will not change him for any random coach this summer either.

If there's one elite coach that is available after the season then we should replace him. If we have no choice then the board needs to talk to him about his cowardly tactics and change it next season. They need to put pressure on him. Focus on improving midfield and attack next season and take UCL seriously.

Height has nothing to do with it, when we beat taller teams nobody says their players were too tall and that they need some short players. The height of our players is among the least of our worries, its not like we concede loads of goals from set pieces or anything. We have only conceded 1 goal from a set piece this season in the league, Real have conceded 11, Atletico have conceded 6 so it doesn't seem to be a problem.

Which golden trophy? You meant the unbeaten league record? That really is a meaningless achievement in my opinion.

It is true that many of our core players are declining and he is left with this squad, but I am struggling to think of anything he has brought to the table for us. Did he really make the defense better? I am not sure, to me the reason why we didn't concede a lot of goals this season was because of Ter Stegen and sheer luck (just watched the highlights of the Valencia game, man, we were so lucky not to concede a few in the first half), often we found our defense in shambles, only to be saved by the post. This guy is worse than Mourinho. Real Madrid did him so man favors this season which will likely not continue next season.

More importantly, his player development is almost zero. He will run the starters to ground because he only trusts them to bring him results. To him the most important thing is to win a game and everything else matters little. To continue to have him as our manager will not only cost a few trophies in the coming seasons but also hinder the development of the players and the team growth. Having Valverde is detrimental to our future.

Yes, the unbeaten league trophy: Arsenal got a golden version of the PL-trophy because of the achievement, but I know it is doubtful Tebas will allow us to get one similar.
As I see it the defence really and truly got better: You can just look at the conceded goals - we are the best/secondbest in europe with Atletico. It is not luck, when we have those statistics throughout the season - although I agree it has gotten worse (of course against Roma) - and against Valencia, so let us see if it holds for the remaining games.

How about giving some credit to Atletico as well - really stable and just performing steadily at top-level, not giving us any opportunity to be sloppy or lose points. They would win a lot of other top-leagues tbh, so La Liga is not just about: Real having a bad season, then it is a walk in the park - it really isn't!

He has developed Busquets and Rakitic who played horrendous under Enrique. But I agree that Alena would be a breath of fresh air instead of Gomes, for example, and I also fail to see the great Barca-playingstyle in his tactics. But he gets way too much shit: Earlier this season he was criticized for making subs to change the game and that we couldn't secure victory earlier - now he is criticized for not making enough subs, when we are winning early on.

I could even agree that finding another coach could make sense, but imo he hasn't really had the chance to prove that he can setup an attacking side. If he insist on not playing Dembele/integrating Griezmann instead of Suarez etc., then of course he has no place here, and should leave.

What annoys me most is when some players for example Semedo start playing well and picking on some form he benches him for the next 6 games.

How much say does a coach have at Barca when it comes to transfers?

I’m asking that because the type of players the board prefers to buy, doesn’t seem to match the playing style of Valverde.

EV prefers to have a midfield similar to Athletico. Tough players like Saul, Gabi, Koke and Thomas Partey. If those same players can be a bit creative then that’s a bonus not a necessity.

Looking at the way the guy sets up his teams, you wonder what's the point in giving him creative and artistic players who want to express themselves in that way as opposed to getting dug in and scrapping about in a 4-4-2.

he's a bilbao scrub. la liga to him is like winning a WC. he simply doesn't even have the imagination to fathom of winning CL.

I thought this guy was intelligent or had some common sense, I was wrong. What a complete idiot he is. He is a mid table manager. He should go back to Bilbao and stay there for life.

The CL means a great deal to Barca. I think Valverde is only interested in bragging rights regarding LA liga. This guy should be nowhere near a top level team.
