Ernesto Valverde - V1

Best midfielder around
It’s a joke that he will get another season here. Pisses me off. No balls, no charisma. Copa>CL.

Still astonished we managed to concede 5 goals to Levante.

Even more shocking than conceding 3 goals in Rome but on a much smaller stage, needs to be said.

EV just keep outdoing himself.

 only just hit me.. we conceded 5 goals (post away from 6) vs Levante who had nothing to play for.. on one hand you have the players who clearly werent motivated enough to beat holiday mode Levante and preserve our unbeatable run but then its the managers job to motivate them right

nothing tops Rome though dude, he made NO subs until the 80th min while he watched Roma dominate us for an entire half and then has the audacity to troll us all by bringing on Gomes. probably best i try forget but damn that still has me baffled

*Post away from 6 and a horrible miss from 7.

Pathetic.

I agree, but it's a sad state of affairs when players can't motivate themselves to stay sharp and focused for games like tonight or against Roma in the CL. If nothing else, their contract and the insane paycheck they receive from the club every month should be more than enough reason to give it 100% for a meager 90 minutes. Add to that the fact that many fans have travelled to see them, and that for some of them it could be the only match they get to see live this season.

This lack of professionalism really bugs me, and is one of the reasons I really wish more players had the mental fortitude of Mascherano and Puyol. They could struggle with form from time to time, but their motivation and effort given on the pitch was never even a question. What happened against Roma or Levante tonight just isn't something that should be tolerated. They can't be goofing around in training all week, laughing and playing dumb games, then collect a paycheck that could buy a new Ferrari every week, and then not show up in games. This kind of Instagram-hero bullshit needs to end. When I watched the game against Roma it felt like I as a fan cared more about the team advancing to the semi-finals than the players on the pitch did. That's not how it should be.

Iniesta jogging around out there as if it was some kind of novelty retirement game. "Bodega Iniesta" indeed. Cringe.

Only Coutinho and Denis delivered a complete effort tonight in my opinion.

Only Coutinho and Denis can keep their head up after tonight.

its the same at most clubs though, if you look at it at face value its egotistical millionaires kicking a leather ball around for 90min.

Our Spanish contingent have won everything there is to win in football, Messi has multiple leagues and CL, they all lack motivation and im not really sure you can ever get that hunger back. maybe a fiery coach like Sarri but then that could have the opposite effect where the players
just say fuck it and down tools.

Ronaldo really is an enigma when it comes to that mentality, hes obsessed and i believe he will have a longer (note longer, not necessarily better) career than Messi despite being 3 years older.

ill get some shit for this but Iniesta should never be a Barca captain. don't get me wrong i love the guy but he doesn't have that authority and passion Puyol had and even Xavi to some extent.

Coutinho was amazing, hes the only player i've seen at Barca since Messi and Neymar who took the game by the balls and almost bailed us out. Denis needs to stay, its insane Gomes is given more minutes than him.

With no other option in sight, I think Xavi is primed to become our next manager with him taking up his coaching badges now too. I don't think Valverde himself will stay past the next season when his contract runs out and if shit goes down earlier.........

I'm not sure how that will work out, but we'll definitely have some leadership and authority back again, and a figure the players will respect and follow. What I fear though is that he's too close to certain players to make some difficult decisions when that time arrives. There is no generation gap between him and our players like it was with Pep or Lucho.

Absolutely, it's a problem that is plaguing football in general, and in particular top clubs where money and fame is at the highest level. Players with the mentality of Puyol are very rare - the kind of player where no matter the success and fame they achieve, they still show up to every game with the same old dedication and drive they had in their first game, when they had everything to prove.

This is why it sometimes can be nice to just watch a game from a lower ranked team where there is a culture for the players to always give it their all, because they have to in order to survive on the table, and the crowd bloody demands it.

With regards to Barca specifically, what bothers me is that there is this "high culture" atmosphere surrounding the club. As if watching Barca play football somehow is more elevated than watching others, where the fans at Camp Nou sit in quiet contemplation as they watch art play out in real time in front of them. It's not, it's just football - it doesn't require any special intelligence to grasp, and Barca isn't the team that is pushing the envelope of the game anymore either, so it's high time to climb down that high horse. It's a sport and the fans need to demand that the athletes on the pitch do what they are paid to do: Play to the best of their physical and mental abilities every time they step out on the pitch, and no less.

Enough with the theories. It's the light blue kit. We always get pounded in that kit. It's our defensive weakness.

Valverde should've noticed that and demanded that we play in our Roma knockoff kits.

We played like shit multiple times this season, this game the luck (and Messi) just wasn't on Ernestos side the first time.

Sucks we lost the unbeaten streak but at least it's late so it doesn't really matter and on top of that everybody saw oncemore how poor Valverdes Barca really is before the summer.

He will stay, but i can't see him surviving year 2 we just play way too bad i still don't really know how we even managed to stay unbeaten for so long.

Great post. A the end, it is all that sums up in this line: How we even managed to stay unbeaten in La Liga for so long... with such bad decisions from EV.

Considering everything this season is a succes but I am affraid that next season might be a horror show if EV doesn’t change his style. The problem is I am not sure he knows how to do that, he is just not on the level a Barca manager should be. :(

Whar more is there to say about the manager who likes to play like ATM but concedes 5 against Levante and it could have easily been 7.

Like I said, he won't survive another year. Judging by how he constantly plays Suarez, and shuns Dembele when the going gets tough, he will suffer the same next year. That depends whether or not Messi will save him again and again. Lack of rotations, lack of energy, unmotivated players, this coach just simply doesnt suit here.

People can keep pinning the blame to the players, but honestly, we played like shit under Valverde all year, and most of the matches is just Messi carrying the entire team. No planning, no vision.

The board bringing Griezmann will make things worse.

Like I will always say, his short-sightedness will eventually kill any success in the long run. I'm glad the unbeaten streak ended, chasing the unbeaten streak is the most pointless and unnecessary record. I won't put that above anything else.

EV's apologists looking forward to next season for Griezmann and Suarez in starting roles while subbing Dembele. When shit hit the fans, they will blame it on Messi.

They were blaming Messi right after the Roma loss and some even claim he is a huge liability in the team.

Like no, Messi was never the problem. If it werent for Messi, EV wouldn't have this glorified "unbeaten run".
