Ernesto Valverde - V1

Suarez quote pretty much shows that Valverde has questionable authority in the team. And that the senior payers have way too much leeway at Barcelona. Valverde could never bench Suarez by way of a clear tactical decision given from the manager to the player.

If what you said was true, "questionable authority", Valverde would have been fired at the end of the previous season, if not immediately, the way Antonio Conte departed Chelsea.

Its pretty clear from that Suarez quote , that if Suarez , Messi , Busquets etc. were to get rested before the Knockout games in the CL , they have to take initiative themselves and ask to be rested.

Things slowly are starting to make sense well not that it was already apparent.

It's much easier to deal with new players if they make mistakes but the vets? nah Valverde isn't going to do anything risky to upset them. the scenario just sounds pretty pathetic when you think about it.

We are pretty much not gonna win the CL this season too!

Pique is no longer the best defender in the team but he will constantly be played instead of a better available player.
Roberto is not the best defender in the team but he should constantly be played, hence there is no chance for the likes of Semedo to even have a chance of proving themselves.
Suarez - lesser said, the better
Busquets - Same is the case!

You can understand it however you want but not everything is black and white.

It could also be that Valverde planned to rest him and talked to him but Suarez insisted that he was fine and asked to play. Valverde trusted his senior player to know his own body, then Suarez found out 3 days later that it wasn't the best idea. Now he regrets his own insistence to play. Messi for example repeatedly said he feels better playing every 3 days. Should the manager not listen to what the player says about his own body?

Of course you can blame Valverde for not benching him nonetheless because he probably knows better than a thick footballer but it doesn't automatically mean he has no authority just because his managarial style might be based on trust.

No player on the planet is going to approach the manager and ask to be rested. It makes you look and feel like a wuss in any dressing room. If he has the opportunity to play he will always play.

It's up to the manager to make that decision and it's up to the manager to decide what is best for the team.

Valverde's decision to play Suarez and Messi against Leganes at home a few days before Roma away was just a historically stupid decision.

1) Suarez wanted to play --> Valverde has no authority.

2) Valverde decided to play Suarez. --> He never rests players.

It's impossible to tell which case it is, but worry not. He's guilty either way. ;)

I cant wait til we get rid of EV, everything about him screams midtable yes-man. its difficult to be optimistic with mini-mou and no doubt hes learned nothing from last years CL

I think this was posted in Suarez thread but got lost in translation. Respect to Suarez for what he said, but this is a major fuck up be the coach.

Fuck up by Suarez too as he could very well wanted to play against Leganes at the time. We don't know full story.

Doesn't absolve Valverde from his other cowardly choices though and list is long.

Suarez says he regrets it because it was his choice. Don't think he's blaming Valverde.

On the other hand, it shows that Valverde won't bench him unless he asks for it.

Valverde has to press the issue more with these guys instead of just blindly trusting them and saying "Well I'm good".

I have a feeling that one of these guys will get a injury this season due to it and one of the main candidates is probably Rakitic. He has played a lot since 2017 with hardly any breaks and add to the WC+ET games It actually surprised me he has played in the first three games so far in the season.

Rakitic ain't perfect but you imagine losing him to an important match because Valverde had to play him against a lower level team because he being way to cautious when Vidal,Arthur etc could have been used to rest him.

Lucho had a habit of underestimating lower table teams when he rotated but Valverde's too cautious approach IMO can be just as bad.
