Ernesto Valverde - V1

Good observation.

I have similar opinion, I really hope we can try out Coutinho-Messi-Dembele because Suarez is playing RW at Wembley, and our right side is always empty because how centrally Messi and Suarez plays. Dembele should sub for Suarez, and he can run at tired legs and help Messi during counter attacks. Then Vidal for Rakitic to provide more workrate and movement.

I would admit that i'm nostalgic to see Messi at false 9 again but tactically it might not be the best thing. Suarez might not score alot but he plays a role occupying the center backs and dragging them all over the place. Also, Messi is playing even deeper than ever. The first thing to consider is that Messi plays exclusively now as a #10. Yea he spends some time out wide, but most times he's in central positions. So the issue is how do we solve the problem with the lack of width on the right. That's where i think Semedo/Roberto need to step up in that Alves role and allow Raki/Vidal to cover the space there.

I hear a lot of concern about not enough offense originating from the right side. The big reason for this is not that the right side is so bad, but that the left side has been spectacular. Not a real problem. Just like so much of the offense involving Messi, this is not a problem, this is glorious. Until the opponents stop what is working, no alternatives are needed.

I've already forgotten how blah the team was for the last three Liga games. I expect the sparkle we saw in Wembley for every game from here on out.

Only problem we are missing a RW, as both Messi and Suarez plays so centrally.

Well thats the theme for years because Suarez + Messi + LW + RW + 3 mid + 4 defenders + GK unfortunately adds up to 12

No real way around that, you either have to drop Suarez, a winger or a midfielder. A really good offensive RB could compensate that, but sadly there is no player that comes anywhere near close to prime Dani Alves.

That's because the graphic shows average positions. Raki and Arthur switched sides a few times so naturally they are close together on average. But a few years ago our mid's actually played so close together.

I think Henias put out a line up like this.

Mats---Semedo, Pique, Umtiti, Alba---Arthur, Busquets, Coutinho---Dembele, Messi, Suarez.

Make Alba own the left hand side like Alves did for us (Semedo will do a role like Abidal did) and that will allow Suarez to move inside more as a LF rather than a LW. Make Dembele stick to the right wing and give Messi the free role. It may not be that physical, but I think this could work

As much as I would like to see how a Coutinho-Busi-Arthur Midfield work, I don't think Valverde will do it.

He wants to have at least one Rakitic or Vidal in the Middle and If Arthur ends up cementing himself as a starter I don't think we will see Coutinho a lot in the middle anymore sadly.

I don't know what is so hard to understand for him. When Tottenham started playing high line in 70th minute or so, he should ve brought fresh legs into midfield and attack. Cou was gassed. Arthur on a yellow. Rakitić was shit. Bring the subs on and order them to press. I don't care who, but they need to be fresh and run. That's the only way we can win the CL this year.

Think we repeated this time and time again and it's so basic. Much better coaches than him have been known to freeze or be late with subs but he is doing it over and over again and usually when he subs it's defensive ones and pampering to old guard.

The worst sub's performance that Valverde ever has done will be vs Roma and I doubt it will be topped.

Nothing worse than us getting pinned back and conceding a couple goals with us being 1 goal away from losing tie completely and having a coach just stand there with a standard disgruntled face but still waiting for too long to make changes. Only to put on the wrong person for the job and we conceding a short time later and losing the tie.

That game was on the players getting complacent. He put out the same lineup we smashed them in the first tie with... its clear the players thought the work was done after the first leg and went into the game on easy mode.

I agree Valverde should have bought on Paulinho but it's hard to blame that crushing defeat mainly on the coach.
