Ernesto Valverde - V1

He's apparently not going to tell the club whether he'll stay or go until after New Year. His contract runs out in 2019.

I think he'll leave after this season or at most sign a one-year extension.

Do you have a link for that?
If it's true, I hope we start planing early with some serious sweet talk and grooming for the potential heir to the throne. I have precisely zero clue as to whom it should be, though.

Seems like the story is from Sport

But when he was asked about in the PC a couple of weeks ago he said it was too early to talk about it.

Just a hunch as Pep and Lucho did the same. Delayed it until February/March/April and then announced they would leave.

As for who his successor might be if he leaves, I just hope it won't Unzue or someone like that. Will probably be a manager from La Liga though.

Well, in any case it wouldn't be surprising if yet another one succumbs to the pressure here.

He already looks 10 years older if you compare his photos from when he started last year and now.

You are actually funny. You just try to find anyone who has an alternative/extreme view of an issue and just support him/them. Not sure what's the point really.

No, George, you're the one who's funny. Yet another ad hominem post but can't stop. I believe most of my views on topics are reasonable, rarely extreme, and coherent. Of course I have certain biases regarding some players, who doesn't?

Anyways, I'm done with this since I'm not the topic (neither are you). Cheers.

I just don't get why they'd offer him an extension. While in my opinion the board can be content with the work he's done so far, he showed no signs that he's a good choice long term. But give him a second season, I say.

It would be great to know when he plans on leaving. But it's understandable he can't tell this early.

I'm guessing those rumors about the supposed contract extension are probably just that; rumors.
But yeah, right now at least an extension would be bizarre. As far as I'm concerned, this season, now that he's settled and probably has had more of a say in regards to squad planning, should be the make or break season for him and the board in regards to extension plans.

Doesn't make sense to offer him an extension. If we renew him it should be because he's doing a great job as manager, and with the way the B team was ignored and how we were utterly humiliated by a team with a fraction of our talent, I wouldn't say he is. For me, the Roma loss alone and everything about how he handled it, from starting a strong XI against Leganes a few days before, to waiting until we were losing to Roma to troll the fans by subbing on Andre Gomes, to openly bragging about focusing on Valencia instead of Roma when we played them the following weekend, are completely unforgivable. If anything, he should have been sacked after all of that. Why would we renew him instead?

Even when I take my hate boner for Valverde off, he's still a manager who for the majority of his career has been a mid-table leader who has never shown any particular spark that could suggest he's got what it takes to lead a top team to the height of European football, which is what we as a club should always be aiming for.

Rarely extreme? I think you just miss Jamdav but you can't be him. I'm done with you too.

Valverde is mediocre in every aspect. That is a problem. I guess his only strong suit is his diplomatic skills. He keeps the board and players happy.
