Gallardo is such a good coach, and it would definitely be interesting to see him at Barca, he is not an obvious fit however, for a few reasons:
- Although he's a very adaptive and flexible coach, he very rarely uses 4-3-3. Instead, he prefers the 4-3-1-2 or 4-2-2-2, which would be interesting as I'm not sure that would pan out with our squad. So fans might have to accept a change from the classical 4-3-3.
- He hasn't won a single league with River Plate, and often drop points against much weaker sides. This is often due to him resting key players before big games tho, and this might not be as big a problem with our squad, which has much greater depth than River's.
- His team doesn't build from the back. Even tho River has a very strong passing game, and a lot of possession, they often play long balls to get the ball to the oppositions half.
- His forward make a lot of runs, and River plays a lot of through balls. Not sure who in the MSG would make these runs into space.
- Lastly he has a lot of influence on the sporting project in River, even on their youth academy. I don't think he would enjoy Barto's headless star signings of the likes of Griezmann, Coutinho and Dembélé.
I would still love to see what he could do to Barca for a lot of reasons:
- He is very much a big game coach. His team shows up in big games, are tactically well setup and don't crumble under pressure, which inarguably is one of our biggest weaknesses.
- He is good at developing young players from the academy.
- He is a tactical mastermind who can turn around games with substitutions and changes in the formation.
- River plays fast in the last third, with a lot of movement and quick passes.
- He has more charisma and leadership than Ernie could ever hope for.
- He believes in having a clear system, style and identity that the fans enjoy. He's said that it's important for him that the fans feel that his team represents them on the field with their play.
I don't think it will happen sadly. Gallardo is very dedicated to River and seems to want to have a long term impact at the club, and Barto just simply suck to hard to pull him away from that job and sack our dear Ernie.
Erik Ten Hag is another option who I'd like to have just as much as Gallardo, but again, it won't happen.
We're stuck with Ernie for the moment, and that won't change this season, not even with a CL group exit. We'd still want Ernie the league master to guide us to a heroic Liga title against some of the strongest RM and AM sides ever
