Bartomeu in my opinion is grossly incompetent and more concerned about generating revenue by signing galatico's than Barca's sporting success. So it doesn't surprise me that he sits back and backs a man whilst teams will start pulling away from Barca.
Of course Barcelona doesn't have the right to win every game but it's been a steady decline for 3.5 years really with the odd bright spot here and there.

Players will run themselves to death if they are payed enough. Do you think the Saudis are not giving a shitload of money to teams for participating and winning in this tournament? Plus the game of this calibre, like Simeone's Atleti vs Barca or Barca vs Madrid or Atleti vs Madrid simply cannot be not intense even if they were friendlies.

They kinda can. Hence why Madrid didn't give a rats ass once the game was too far gone in the summer. But I partly agree. I always think people miss the point when talking about this comp. It is indeed the team rank that matters here - the Supercup used to be for all intents and purposes a two game tie of a level of a decider in NBA Finals. Except the stake is not determining who was better this whole year, but a clash of teams are top2, or from this season, top4 in the country. Instead of American style finals, we got conference finals to precede it. It's a lower pressure opportunity to one up perennial Spanish rivals. And that in itself makes the trophy rank a bit higher than people give it credit for, because it does affect prestige, it does affect morale, it does affect form and it does create the buzz. It's not a Mickey Mouse cup. And players pretty consistently show it, because they could turn up, field Lucas Vazquez and Vinicius on either wing against Atleti's B team. They did in friendlies, they would here if it were 'meaningless' indeed. But it is not. Nor should people act like idiots when talking about it, because you behave completely differently when watching it. The game wouldn't even happen if the competition wasn't alive. I'd be more grateful you get another good game to watch instead of floundering around the matter.
