I have said for many years 'English football' doesn't value intelligence....they imported of Scots, Welsh and Irish for their canniness and wit which masked that at club level for decades and when they wained, the European intelligence was imported. When exposed at international level , the 'stout yeoman' approach , backed by obnoxious and misplaced arrogance of the football establishment/media/ fans , fails year on year , decade on decade.

I argued this resulted from football being 'working class' and the defensive nature of suspecting intelligence in footballer culture.....that is not to say many gifted footballers weren't produced or those who had the wit on a pitch ...but they never became the norm or the desired.......and these players became managers and coaches...a vicouse circle.

I could be wrong of course...but the failure of England year upon year upon year... keeps anyone proving that.

One exception...one chance...ruled out because he wouldn't toe the line.....Brian Clough ( and of course Bob...but he was ours!)

Everyone is dedicated to the meme that the English think they're amazing even though every English person that posts here bemoans how crap we are.

Well you see plenty of high expectations elsewhere at least. But you just can't help yourself with these results, that meme creates the best banter.

I despise Italy. They always play like shit yet win. All their matches are boring and their fans think its awesome. Luckily Serie A bar Juve died so we dont get to see this Chelsea football dominate the world.

With there worst squad for many years and Conte of all people as manager and still probably playing the best football in the tournament..

This post honestly

The problem as I see it is England essentially being composed of children in men's bodies, who were probably too busy snapchatting their mates 'lol bored' or ordering their 17th pair of Louboutin trainers while Hodgson, Neville and Lewington were telling them to watch the long throws. We don't have a single eloquent and thoughtful player in that dressing room, just children at one end and chavs at the other. It's a problem born in the last 10 years or so when a 16-year old can sign a £2 million 5-year deal and know he's sorted financially for life.
