England have not beaten them in a tournament since 66. Are the English obsessed with this? Yes. Will it lift the nation if England win? Undoubtedly.
England have had the players and the managers, to have been successful and to have lifted a trophy since 66. But there is something in synergy that a Denmark team are greater than their individual parts in lifting a European Championship, or a Wales in reaching the semis, that England- whether it be a missed penalty by Southgate or a ball that crossed the line and was not given by Lampard - cannot muster when it is so desperately needed.
