I understand that United is the better side, but is Villareal that far inferior? The way they play, it makes it seem to be a Real vs Leicester City match up (which is similar to what it would be if the league positions were reversed).

Because of the pretty early goal, they got into that situation to defend and it's hard to switch focus. They looked tired early and will surely try to hold on for penalties.
Of course they should be much inferior to United

I understand that United is the better squad, but big names on paper aside, is the difference between the quality these teams produce normally AS big as what it seems like in this game? I think Villareal are better than what they are showing. While I still expect United to be attacking and on the offensive, Villareal have been clearing balls from minute 1 as if it's minute 90. That's a very 'small team playing giant' mentality.
