European Super League

Well with the money and the exclusiveness of the league it won't take long until Spurs and Arsenal build competitive teams and take a clear step ahead of those teams that aren't in the ESL.

Hopefully the Premier League stands their ground and bans them. What is the point of them being in the league if all 6 are guaranteed a spot in the Super League. It does away with sporting merit completely.

The EPL would fold if banned those 6.

TV companies wouldnt pay up.

?I can announce news that will have an extraordinary impact on the club?s income in coming years,? he said. ?Yesterday, the board of directors agreed to accept the conditions required to participate in a future European super league, a project led by the Europe?s big clubs ? We have also approved the new format of the Club World Cup.?

And there it was. Bartomeu, on the other hand, no longer was. He reached the end of a speech full of vindication of victimhood, there was some applause from the directors resigning with him 24 hours after insisting there was no reason to do so, and then the Zoom cut. No questions, no details and no way of unsaying it now. All that secrecy and now a man with nothing left to lose had decided he might as well let it out.

As a new "CL" it sounds exciting (2 divisions a 10 teams, best four teams in each group play knockout rounds). I would sign up for that.

BUT not qualifying through sporting merit is a disgrace. "Founding fathers" sounds like some dystopian shit.

Teams gteed places and the weight towards number of EPL teams is the worst part.

Wouldnt be at all surprised if UEFA will offer similar gtees to teams on coefficients securing a spot though.

The whole concept of the Super League is what will fold football. Honestly, the idea that the same teams qualify year on year despite their league position is just absolute madness.

Especially with the money involved. Got some teams in leagues struggling to survive. Jose already been sacked by Spurs ahead of the Cup final for refusing to train players this morning apparently. Although that's just speculation right now as they were having a shit season.

I can see some others following suit though if they weren't in agreement and UEFA/FIFA places are in jeopardy.

EPL clubs will be super strong with EPL money+Super League money.

About Dortmund, they Are a feeder club so perhaps they see more opportunity in keeping running costs low and selling to the ESL clubs.

The most stupid thing from all of this, is that Tottenham is one of the founding clubs. Have they ever even won a trophy in their history.

La Liga statement:

The 2nd paragraph below is key. The whole point is that teams like Leicester can make Champions League while teams like Arsenal/Spurs don’t make it when underperforming.
