European Super League

TV money is not the driving factor that overrides desire to win domestic league and they all know only one team can win in Europe and trophies count.

So why would an ESL team that currently sits 5th in the league and is sort of out of title reach still make any genuine attempt, given that finishing 4th doesnt even offer CL anymore?
It would loose prestige already through the fact that besides relegation or the 2 teams that genuinely compete noone even plays for anything anymore.

See some online claiming Super League is a new concept is too funny

This is perpetuation of the same fears for 40 years running. Hate relegation. Hate the risk of losing their wealth.

How are they trying to keep an UEFA tournament alive when the ESL is actively trying to replace the CL ??

They arent. That's the fucking point. They will do everything to sabotage UEFA and make their own product more relevant.

Sporting merit and history is irrelevant when creating a Super League. Spurs have the potential to bring in most interest and money compared to teams left out. It's very logical to include them in what aims to be the most lucrative tournament in the world.

Which is my biggest problem with all of it. What is Football without sporting merit, might as well call it a day.

Clubs like Leicester and West Ham who have been better than Spurs and Arsenal this season would be denied the chance to play European nights but their spots go to Spurs and Arsenal so their international fanbase gets to watch them yet the loyal supporters who pay their hard earned money to watch their respective clubs every week miss out.

What we know so far:

-This Superleague's protagonists are Liverpool, United and Real Madrid.

-Chelsea and City were reluctant to join, but did in the end, since they were afraid to be left out.

-We don't know what is Barca's involment in this so far.

That's exactly the problem with it yes.

Already happens in league that some in midtable and higher have prioritised other competitions if not much to play for in league. Nothing new.

Liverpool few seasons ago and Man Utd have both given up on domestic leagues to try and get CL place through Europa for example.

Teams will still be as desperate to win the domestic leagues and prioritising other trophies or competitions happens already at times.

Gteed spots is the biggest weakness and be better going all in on full on European league with combines domestic leagues for qualification. Change the whole structure.

Could see something like this happening in the Americas aswell with the big clubs from Brazil, Argentina, Mexico forming a new super league together with other big clubs in the region like Penarol, Colo Colo, Olimpia, Athletico Nacional etc and may even invites to a few from MLS also. Wouldn't be a bad idea tbh.

They wouldnt be denied as there is a route to qualify for the ESL just more limited than previously.
