It's amazing how a player can change. He was great in Atletico and Liverpool and then crap season after season in Chelsea and Milan. A laughing stock.

Now he's playing great again. What changed? Probably just playing for a team where he is appreciated.

To score against Barca/Madrid is extra motivation to the ladyboy. Lets see how he fares against the lesser sides, his general play still needs a significant lift. Early days to declare a definite revival.

They were ecstatic about him when he moved to Chelsea. He was the best striker for a couple of seasons after all. It's more a combo of injuries, lack of confidence after a bad start, and most of all, a playing style that wasn't conducive to his style. He should've stayed with Liverpool for a few more seasons and he would be on par with Henry, Shearer and Gerrard as the greatest attacking players in EPL history.

Why is Gerrard mentioned?

I agree with Alik. I don't think he ever fit the role of the superstar mercenary if you will. Liverpool is a different type of club, the fans are very warm and passionate and Atletico well is his home I think that's where he thrives at.

Yeah, but he is a midfielder. And you mentioned the all time topscorer and Henry, would be more natural to mention Rooney or Lampard in that regard.

Yes he's a midfielder, but please note that I described him as one of the best attacking players in the EPL's history. I didn't say he was one of the best forwards or scorers. He was, for about 7 years, simply a force of nature moving forward.

I do understand why you prefer the Lampard comparisons (not the Rooney one though), but I feel like Lampard's one level below. Both were still class players though :beer2:

Gerrard was immense for a long time, and i felt he was a notch above Lampard at his best. He was the engine both ways. I just felt it was a bit odd mentioning him alongside stats machines in the attacking third.

I'm at work so I wasn't able to watch the game. How did he do? Internet's pretty split up; 50% says he was bad, 50% says he was class.
