Fernando Torres

Edward,

I sincerely believe that since you have been following football for some years now,you must have realised by now that world-class players, such as Torres demonstrate a rather pronounced tendency of preferring CL clubs rather than Europa League clubs(for prestige and title-winning mostly)

Plus,I also believe that you must have heard about Liverpool's current financial state, which has become even more precarious owing to the fact that your beloved Merseyside team has failed to achieve at least a 4th spot finish.A 4th spot that you may not recover for the foreseeable future(Manure,Chelsky,Assnal and oil-rich City)...and since Torres is 26 and growing older by the minute(scientific fact)he might as well consider a move to a club worthy of his not inconsiderable talent while he is at it.

From the club's point of view, selling Torres and Gerard may be by far the most efficient and direct option for alleviating economic strain and renewing the team for when the balance of power in the English game will be more favourable...what is the point of holding on 2 frustrated superstars when the best you can do is a Europa League berth....

Ppl might overreact a bit. Torres haven't been best player for Spain, but Geez you guys act like he is 3rd class footballer or something. Torres actually wasn't that bad as he is still getting in good positions for scoring chances, he is danger anytime near box and defenders know that. Nando defo shall get his minutes to find a goal or two, I am sure he will. This WC for Torres is decent, but could be better. (But defo not like bad or terrible)

As a fan who's watched all of Spain's games and doesn't have any bias (positive or negative) w.r.t. Torres, I think he has been atrocious. One shot on goal in 11 attempts says it all. Judging from how many fans are suggesting that Torres be benched, I'd say that not many are impressed with his form.

Daltis8, your annoying you seem to diss other clubs because they are not in a good position and just want Barcelona to sign everyone under the sun.

Liverpool may be going through a bad time but they are still a huge club and always will be. There is a lot of pride and history associated with Liverpool and they wont be cherrypicked by anyone for their players, nor should they be. If we want Torres, it will cost us top dollar but to be honest, despite their recent problems, I believe Torres heart still is at Anfield and he will stay.

barca doesnt need torres or for that matter any other striker. this will not be good at all. moneytary wastage and benching of homegrown talents.

exactly. the only thing missing is the final touch.
the fact that he got into many scoring opportunity is satisfying enough because he hasnt lost it.
touch can be lost when injured. but it can be recovered after some time.

I take my words back, torres didnt dive, it was something like messi vs pepe in the first clasico of 2009/10
where messi's own leg hit the other leg because of pepe's challenge ....

The Chile player's knee caught the back of Torres' foot, him falling was unavoidable, it's really only questionable because he stayed on the ground as long as he did. And the fall wasn't directly caused by the Chile player either, it was caused by Torres tripping himself (accidentally!) as a consequence of the contact.

On another forum I saw someone bring up that he stayed on the ground during a goal celebration which to them also made it obvious it wasn't a dive, since otherwise he would probably get right up and celebrate. (of course this was a place full of Torres fans who think he's a saint and can do no wrong, but still it's an interesting thing I hadn't thought about). Another thing is the speed they were running at could have made the fall harder than it would have been if it had just been a light run instead of sprinting.

I still maintain that there were at least SOME theatrics involved, it still looked way too dramatic to be completely real... but I'm sure he did not intend to get a player sent off nor was it really premeditated at all. People who are labeling him a diver or comparing him to Ronaldo are coming to conclusions too quickly, I know he's not perfect but in this case it was just an incident that went a little too far.

Apparently in Finland the commentator dubbed him "the dying swan"
