Calma, calma
So we should give this prize every year to either Messi or Ronaldo just because players like Ribery actually play in a well organized, functioning team with players that help each other? Just because these two are generally better players?
I don't get that logic. Just because you have so many good players (who, true, aren't on the same level as Ronaldo or Messi) and they all carry the team's success, doesn't mean you can't pick one outstanding individual. The fact that they have all these players who function so well on the pitch speaks miles about them as a team and as players.
We all know Messi and Ronaldo are better. But you gotta have something to show for it. I'm sorry, but winning La Liga and flopping in the CL, every Clasico and CDR + winning the Supercopa and flopping in the CL, La Liga and that dreadful CDR final can't be called a good season.
You can't give awards to players that are more talented. Winning trophies is what football is about. Scoring goals is great, but come on, neither Messi nor Ronaldo had an outstanding season.
That's just my opinion so please don't crucify me
If Messi and Ronaldo were in a well organized, functioning team, they would in general be even better, because their life would be a lot easier. They can play well more constantly throughout the 90 minutes as opposed to coming through in specific moments to individually win the game with a goal (or two).
Messi of Barca 2011 would always win the Ballon D'Or over Messi of Barca 2013, even though the latter may have better stats.
It will obviously be harder for Ribery to win the Ballon D'Or as his Bayern teammates will steal his votes, which ultimately would deservedly reduce his chances of winning. Still long ways to go though.
