Was thinking this is Laporta face saving again but he'll look even more of a twat if Frenkie leaves now, a Messi 2.0 and his thread should be renamed 'Lieporta'

It's tough to sell a player that doesn't want to leave. I also think we ideally wanted to sell him before July 1st and Man Utd by then were dicking around with their shit bids.

He'll have to take a significant paycut though.

Nah he wont look a twat.

Folk lap it up and the argument will be it was a financial decision rather than a footballing one.

If anything these statements build that argument for them.

If he takes a reduction and extends further they could save 10m off the books.

Compromise could be extending by few years and reducing salary but with 50/60m release clause in couple years.

Imo the midfield with Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie, Busi, Kessie, Nico, and Roberto looks plenty good. All we need to make a step forward with the team is a starting quality CB and a direct winger who can dribble and score.

CB and RW for me are vital pieces. If we can do Lewandowski on good terms great, if not skip the 9 for now and hope Aubameyang does very well.

I see this as a mere negotiation strategy.

- Many clubs are interested in him.
- Lower your salary and you could stay

This all puts pressure on Man U to up its offer while also justifying a potential sale as economically necessary.

We are in good position.

He stays, it help wage bill.
He goes, there is few clubs interested, and will go for more then 65 + 20mil.

Might be more open to keeping him if they know City won't sell us Bernardo Silva this summer.

There is zero chance he is getting 50m gross in next few seasons.

It is being reported as around 25m gross he will be getting and that is due to deferred salary.

Doubt very much he is going to give that deferred salary up if he is sold either so that is not any huge factor in selling him.

He'll probably have to take a big paycut tbh.

Pay cut to cover his deferred salary and then extended to reduce his amortised cost possibly.

Cant see why he would accept that when club have tried to push him out though unless he wants to stay that much..but stay for what? It is clear this is about football more than finances despite what club claim.
