I was expecting him to take the reins in midfield, now that Messi is gone, but instead lately we are talking about other kids Gavi and Ansu as the future of the club. Against Dynamo cannot recall anything outstanding from him.

True. It seems like he is what he is. Doesn't seem to improve anymore.

He needs to stop passing every goal scoring chance btw. The easiest thing to read for defenseman or goalie.

I don't stan Fdj like so many people do here but for the record, he's a defensive midfielder/deep lying midfielder hybrid or whatever the fuck he is. Point is, traditionally speaking midfielders of his type don't dominate games the same way number 10s, attacking midfielders or wingers do. It's just not going to happen.

He is only going to shine with a better and more balanced football system.

It seems like all of our midfielders are like this tho. Fdj, pedri, gavi, busi, all guys who don't make many threatening actions and just circulate the ball. All of them combined have 0 goals this season. There's no threat of a shot from any of our midfielders so it's really predictable we just try to pass through an opening to our forwards, nobody is scared of the midfield.

Busquets is a defensive midfielder, he'll never dominate a game like Iniesta and co. Fdj was brought to replace Busquets; in his breakthrough season he was lauded for his ability to beat the press, ball retention, connecting the defense to midfield/starting build up play from the back, and ball progression through midfield. He was excellent at this and still is. But these are not attributes you can dominate a team with. I honestly don't understand why so many people here are obsessed with Fdj transforming into complete Lampard type midfielder when that was never his skillset, and then to criticize him for not upholding those absurd expectations.

Gavi and Pedri are teenagers. Anyone expecting them to perform at a high level on a consistent basis is delusional. These are the players that should be on the bench whilst learning their craft, not the players to build around hoping they'll mold into veteran like players within a year or two. It's just not happening.

In total agreement but these are the players we have to rely on. All our players are weird hybrid guys and we have no clearly defined roles. Coutinho, Griezmann, FDJ, Depay, it is not clear what roles these guys play when they play. Our profiles in the squad are very poorly balanced. We have way too much of one type of player (FDJ Busi Pedri Gavi all fitting into this deep lying mid profile but all on the field at the same time) and no offensive midfielders. Same thing up front where we still have no real striker and a ton of winger hybrid guys (Depay, Coutinho, Fati, Demir etc) and our only 'out and out' winger is Dembele who might get sent to the stands.

Lost his mojo in final third. Memphis set him up perfectly and instead of shooting he chose the impossible pass to Ansu, who got covered well by a Kiew defender.

Just shoot the fucking ball. FFS. This is just plain cowardice to take matters into your own hands, leaving the decisive responsibility to another player. It's easy to pass, it takes courage to shoot.
