Haha. Xaviesta, Busquets was great 09-11 but that's it. Real midfield much more adaptable, durable and functional especially in cl. Too many nostalgic idiots out here. Fact 8s we underachieved in cl at our peak. Real did the opposite.

Barca mid trio reached a higher peak. But I think the Madrid mid has more longevity, are more durable, versatile and clutch. There have been moments when K C M have really shined. The thing is RM's playing style was never to totally dominate ball possesion like Barca's was so that affects the eye test but their off the ball work is kinda underrated.

In terms of success, Madrid trio edges it since we can't include international success in the conversation for obvious reasons.

Barca midfield was more spectacular.

Madrid's midfield showed functionality, guile, longevity and momentary strokes of genius.

Madrid trio has lesser chances of going completely wrong.

No disrespect to any of the 2 midfield. Both amazing.

Barca peak may have been higher but fizzled out quickly. Madrid midfield have stood the test of time. Noone expected them to win CL but they did it against all odds. Barca midfield were great front runners but lacked the ability to launch any remontadas.

Xavi was 29 when won first CL as part of that midfield.

Of course Real have more longevity as got together at younger age and Modric has held performances better than any of three did.

But that 2/3 years when Barca midfield dominated in way no other mid has at both club and intl level doesnt compare.

Good post. Objective and measured. Ball hogging and possession stats are not remembered, trophies are. There were a number of times when Barca looked clueless against parked buses. Madrid always somehow got goals from midfield and defense.

If we had respectable exits from Europe we wouldn't have that much whinging. What is so galling about our European defeats has been the manner in which we've been hammered. No big club stands still after getting hammered so many times. We do though.
