I think he knows that he has to lead by example now and is becoming more of a leader within the team. With Puyol, Xavi and Valdes nearing the end of their Barca careers there he recognises that there is a void there that has to be filled. A fully focused Pique would make a great captain.

I know that but he'll become one of the vice captains along with Busquets once Xavi,Puyol and Valdes are gone. He mightn't have the armband but he'll certainly be looked to as a leader in the squad.
