When Messi drops back we have zero movement upfront,or someone to create danger and defenders having the eyes on him.With a Lewandowski type of striker who is big powerfull and invovles in build up we would have a target man and Messi to create chances for him too.Messi could well play behind the striker as in the Milan game and can drift sometimes to the right..whats the point anyway, he has a free role in this team,he won't stay in one place.

If you guys want this false 9 situation to work we need to improve our wingers invole in the game and movement.And also it won't work with Alexis.Reus would be so ideal...propably he is the one to complete this attack.

When the ball is on the left flank, the RWF needs to make runs into the box and occupy the defenders, and vice-versa when the ball is on the opposite flank. At times last season, our wingers kept way too wide when not on the ball and they were too far away from goal and not really threatening the back-line. It's good to open the pitch and stretch the play, but not if it means sacrificing a goal-threat.

Messi gets more goals as the false 9 but Barca are better with him on the right. He can play as false 9 against the smaller teams in La Liga but he should be RW or at least not as a false 9 in the bigger games against Real and in the CL.

Has everyone forgotten how bad we have performed against Real and the bigger teams in the CL the last two seasons? Or how great Messi and Alves used to be on the right together?

IMO he should start at RW with a license to roam and Alves providing the width when he does float into the middle.

Messi wants to play down the middle and the simple truth is that Barca these days is all about making Messi happy

It's funny, because if you put that same midfield in the PL or some other league and ran a 4-2-3-1 with Masch and Busi as the DM's and Cesc as the trequarista, it would probably dominate.

I believe we will see alot of this combination this season especially as Xavi will be getting more rest than he usually does.
Busi in the Xavi role would be completely mental. Whilst he may not be as mobile as Xavi, he's more defensively aware and will be able to press. Busi's vertical play is severely underrated...Masch is a world class DM and better defensively than Busi and has an impressive passing range. We'd be less susceptible to counters with him as DM. Cesc is completely ethereal as a trequartista. I doubt there's anyone with a better eye for the final pass. Only downside to this is that Messi would have to play more as a no. 9 because we will average less possession but have more verticality and create more chances.
