How good was Thierry Henry in his Barcelona's days ?

World class during 2008 2009..
Didn't give a single fuck about us once he won what he came for.. There is no way a player declines the way he declined after the treble.. He simply unplugged. He lost a bit of my respect because of that.. Eto'o would never have lost hunger because he loved the club and was never happy about what he already won.. At the end a hungry club loving player left and an old player who lost interest stayed.
I give 10 for the treble season

Y'all forget Yaya played at CB in that final 
- Henry is a legend, plain and simple and I'm not having anyone call him overrated. Considering his debut season we were in absolute shambles and the fact that he had to adjust to our style and Rijkaard playing him in a lot of different positions, he ended up with 31 contributions in almost 50 games so like, that alone proves he was not overrated. Also keep in mind he went from having complete freedom under Wenger to having to play a strict winger/inside forward role with Pep as well and then had a world-class season. Considering how old he was when we signed him, he was an absolute success and his last season drop off was not surprising when you also factor in we signed a certain Swede that liked to also play in his position. While he might have had more overall influence at Arsenal, he showed everything that was great about him in England with Barca, in a more difficult individual climate for him. He was a vital part of our team when he was here and he deserves to be put among the other legendary attackers who have played here
- While I love Yaya and he is a more well-rounded overall player than Busi, I still think Busi is a better player and has a bigger influence on games than Yaya does and they really are different beasts for me. I think comparing him more to Xavi and Iniesta is more accurate because Yaya was always more of a b2b than a pure DM, he just got shoe-horned into the pivot and his pace, strength and defensive qualities carried him through. The only think I will say with Yaya is that he lacked a bit of consistency and could have moments in matches where his influence would wane in terms of progressing his team forward dangerously. And that for me has always been the thing that Pep has had with Yaya that progressed to when he arrived in Manchester and why he preferred Xavi, Don and Busi here. Even comparing Yaya to Mascherano, again Che is more of a pure DM and especially with Pep liking specialist players that he can utilize in certain systems, that is why he had more longevity than say Yaya did. And Yaya's overall ability to do a bit of everything and have moments of brilliance was perfect for the PL and overall I think it all worked out for the best. He was a much more complete midfielder arriving at Manchester than he was when he first arrived here and that is something I was always proud of

He was overated and we weren't in shambles.
Had one good Barca season in a very strong team at all points of his career.
Starting Inside forward in Rijkards final season should score more than he did and was one of the reasons we were so poor in a very strong team. Was very bad and tried to return to England many times and downed tools. Lost respect for him.
Next season very good no complaints.
Final season (lol) I don't have to say anything Bojan would have done better than him clearly gave up after treble.

Bro, we lost the last game of the season to Mallorca 3-2.
Statements like that make it hard for me to take your criticisms of Henry seriously. Sure, Rijkaard throwing out a mess of a 4-2-4, Deco & Roni partying up until training and a weak defensive line had NOTHING to do with how poor we were and it was all on Henry :eyeroll:
At least back your opinion up with something other than your anecdotal and clearly biased statements of “he was very bad”...

Think I was too hard on him in other threads. He was brilliant and I am being anal going on about his poor performances in the CL.
I still don't think he's a top ten player ever, or the third best player of the 21st century, or silly stuff like that. But that speaks more to the geniuses he is competing against. He himself was a genius.

He was very poor when the team was poor, one of the reasons the team was poor to be honest. Then Alves arrived and he and Messi (and Xavi) overloaded the right side, which meant Henry got so, so much space, it was the ideal situation for him, but he messed up almost all of the time. The team was pretty much set up in a way that he would get the shot, like they do in basket ball, but he didn't make much of it. He showed he had no clue how to play football, he was the weakest link when it came to the "tiki taka" which was predictable and understandable but the grade of embarrassment was a little bit too much for my taste.
He at least was a bit fast still, and had some sort of quality in his shooting at least 1/3 of the time, meaning his numbers weren't complete shit, looking back.

He had bursts of speed and could take on players. Had solid finishing too considering he was played wide.
In this system playing more inward, like Raphinha, he would score loads.
Came few years too late, unfortunately, as Villa. Both gave us less than expected but still enough to be important in trebles.

He was, along Dennis Bergkamp, the reason I loved watching Arsenal games in early 00's. One of my favorite players of the era, I was delighted when he joined FC Barcelona. Albeit at 30 which was considered veteran age back in the day.
As others said - mediocre first season, world class 2008/09 and decline in 2009/10. Part of it could be attributed to the tectonic shifts at the club with Messi's new false 9 role and Ibrahimovic <-> Eto'o trade/transfer. What ended for Pep transfer one asshole for another asshole.

Hé arrived at 30 y.o. and no longer had the breakaway pace he had at Arsenal despite being played wide. He had respectable numbers but he didn’t truly integrate and part of that was more down to the implosion that was ongoing within the squad. Pep got a better version of him but he wasn’t going to be able to do that for very long at his age & condition
One year was wasted owing to Ronaldinho & Deco partying their way out of the club but he had an impact, just quite different from the one he had in the Premiership. I’m still thinking only Suarez & Kun comes close for the sheer brutality of impact Henry had in England
