Afellay rarely plays good vs AFC Ajax, hope he'll do a "v. Bommel" act though.

He's a decent player, but don't expect miracles.

In my opinion thats not true. Iv seen all the matches. Look at last years match where PSV won 4-3 and look at the analysis that Gullit made. He praised Afellay for changing the game for us after we conceded a first goal within 5 minutes. Last season we lost the match in the ArenA even though we had the best play in the 1ste half, but all the opportunities we had got wasted by poor finishing skills. Ajax was far more effective. Afterwards Martin Jol complimented the midfield and said it was the toughest match they had in the ArenA. I know people like Van der Gijp en Derksen keep repeating that Afellay never leads PSV in big matches. But its the opposite. The flaw that PSV had was being ineffective. The midfielders rarely saw all their efforts rewarded in goals, which lead to a lot of frustration. This year is a different story.

Said rarely,

PSV lost deservedly with 4-1 and Afellay was average at most. You're far too optimistic about Afellay. I'm in the stadion every week, I adore Afellay and rate him as the best player we've since Gomes and Alex. But it's PSV, it's the Eredivisie! Don't forget to put it into perspective. Even a beast like Alex would not get a first eleven spot in Barcelona, nor will Gomes.

PSV has currently one player who has the potential to become one of the best players of his generation. And I'm not talking about Afellay or Dzsudzsak. It's only a pity he used to be a coke-addict, but if he can remain clean.. (Jonathan Reis)

I think you misunderstood my comment. Im not saying Ajax didnt deserve to win. 4-1 says it all, good for them. But if you look at the cause of that endresult you have to dissect the match in parts and not just look at the score. Iv watched the game twice. In the first half PSV dominated the midfield with Afellay and Engelaar. Within 10 minutes Toivonen should have scored while being 1 on 1 with the Ajax Goalie. We also had 2 or 3 counters that should have been played out in professional fashion. In the 2nd half some PSV-players started walking out of position and not regarding their tasks, so we made it easier for Ajax to defend our efforts. Still if you look at Afellay in that match he had his opponents running after him for the first 45 minutes and he was the architect of what should have been PSV's half. If the strikers converted the chances created by the midfield we would have owned Ajax. But they didnt and apparently that reflects poorly on Afellay, which I dont think is fair. So I still disagree that he was average in that match.

Alex and Gomes are definately topplayers. You say its just the eredivisie, but they proved it in the Champions League and now in the Premier League. As for Jonathan Reis, no argument there. The kid is a phenomenon.

Alex the CB from Chelsea? Fuck yes he would, he's so underrated.

There if little doubt in my mind that he was brought in to put Villa in the middle and to keep Iniesta in the center. He is a RWF, just because he played centrally, for me his style is that of a winger's.

Yeah, your right, with this signing our players will actually be put in their proper positions.

disagree about Villa, sorta.

Messi and Villa share a central role. confining Lio to the right is criminally reducing his effect on a game.
