Ilaix Moriba

Not saying he is a snail , but some people perceive him to be much faster than he is. Remember a few moments where he couldnt catch up with a player on the break.

I mean yea, he's not superfast. Just faster than most of our other midfielders, and up there with De Jong. Much faster than likes of Busi and Pjanic, faster than Pedri.

Depends on the type of movement. For example, he's very quick at pivoting and changing direction quickly due to his low inertia (because of low weight). Opposite of Matthieu really, who had pretty good speed in a straight line over medium distances, but on very short burst and change of direction, he moved like a truck.

Puig is not THAT fast in a straight-up sprint, but when you add changes of direction, pivoting, turns and such, he is quick.

Don't think he is faster than Pedri , and comparing him to Busquets and Pjanic isn't a high bar.

I get what your saying. Puig has great acceleration and quickness of foot to create separation over the first 0-10 yards. A great advantange. Over the long distance he would get left to dust in a sprint like the Ilaix chaseback (never caught his man but put enough pressure on him to force the mistaken pass- which is my point before).

Now is Ilaix slow? No, his speed is decent. I recall before we signed Yaya that everyone claimed he was a snail pace wise (didn't help that his brother had great pace in his prime), but at Barcelona he improved his pace on bursts thanks to his strength on the ball. I see the same with Ilaix. Not explosive pace but good pace and strength to go past attackers/keep up with defenders. Gives the illusion of being slow due to his running style. The other issue is that everything Ilaix does is it the same tempo. I been saying it for years.

Puig you could say gives the illusion of being faster than he is due to going all out on every run like when you used to see overmatched 100m runners go all tense and lose their tecnnique when in the lane next to Usain Bolt.

And btw, I love what Koeman is doing, but hate him so much for creating all these Ilaix vs. Pedri vs. Puig vs. Ivan de la Pena debates.

No one ever said Puig is fast sprinter. Another needles red herring. It was always about agility, which is not about sprinting. Elephant would never catch a rat. ;)

Not really concerned with his speed, more about the alertness and quickness of his feet when in possession. He looked a bit ponderous with the ball. If he has Yaya / Busi level ball control and spatial intelligence then it's not an issue but very very few have that.

I don?t want to turn this into ilaix vs Puig but he has been invisible. There is no reason he should be getting more game time than Puig

More assists than Puig :boss:

On a serious note, good match. Some amazing tackles and ball retentions.

Nope. There is a reason why he is playing more, he is just a better player and offers much more.
