Jasper Cillessen

Affelay would've been great here if he hadn't been injured all the time.

I still remember his game vs Real.

What if Lucho will continue the rotation the same way, TS gets mad and ultimately leaves next season? We will sign another GK I reckon then .

I saw the Ajax game yesterday.... I wish I didn't.
Going from Bravo to this.... :banghead:

Now Ter Stegen MUST play every single minute of the season.
At least, I can hope he will prove me wrong, somehow....

Flavia, I'll quote you here:

This was pretty obvious. Unzue and Lucho signed him, after all.

Just a thought:
1. we (Barca) agreed to sign Mats during 2013/14 season, while we still had Tata, IIRC
So, Lucho had nothing to do with signing Mats? We picked him way before Lucho.
2. then Lucho came and he asked for another Gk, Bravo, right?
3. after that, between Lucho's pick (Bravo) and board's pick (Mats), Lucho decided to play Bravo as a No1 pick for 2 seasons
------------------------------------------------------
4. now, Bravo (Lucho's pick) left the club and Lucho and Unzue picked a new guy, this time Cillessen
= then, it again seems to some extent, that Cillessen is Lucho's pick, while Mats is still a guy who was came here before him

I'll add one more time to this:
5. Cilless is a Dutch NT starter
6. he is somewhat young, aged 27
7. we paid him more (13+2 Millions) than we paid Bravo (12) and Mats (12) and he is the 7th most expensive Gk ever

When we sum everything (if I made some mistakes here, sorry, my bad), I just don't believe that Cilless came here to be a guy who will play 5 Cdr matches per season.
He is again Lucho's pick, very expensive, young, more experienced than Mats...

I am expecting some sort of rotation again.

Flavia, I'll quote you here since it fits better this topic than Bravo's topic:

Then Lucho would had just kept Bravo and sold MAtS. Cillessen could turn out good, but I think he was brought just to be the backup. Price is due to not having many options to choose from, and the current market inflation. Lucho might rotate again, and we'll see. But I don't think it'll be like Bravo-MAtS.

In that case Cillessen really needs to prove himself for the fans as Marc imo has shown he's quality enough. Flavia said goalies need to play all the time but imo every player needs competition to go beyond their own limits so I don't mind seeing Cillessen here.

About Lucho wanting to use Cillessen as his own signing. Doubt that. Bravo would've played all the time if that was the case and Marc has proven to be quality.

based on that it looks like were going from having 2 great goalkeepers Mat and Bravo to having 2 below average ones Jaspar and Matip in just 1 year.

All team from Ajax was bad yesterday. Jasper couldn't do much as the defense and midfield where a joke.
Even if we had VD Sar I doubt that result would be different.
Cillissen is a good keeper that fits perfectly in Barca ( Ajax) philosophy.

Meh transfer, the price is too much for a meh quality keeper.

That said, since Cillessen is a Barca player now, I welcome him and wish him the best. Can't really badmouth a player once he puts Blaugrana on.

I'm with you on this one. Managers do have the tendency to sideline (not rate) players purchased just before their arrival or without their approval. And I have always felt Lucho has never considered MAtS as his player. He seemed to have low tolerance to his mistakes or bad spell. Like when he had a bad game @ SanMames, he was dropped for the return leg, or when he had an early bad spell in Bravo's absence, the latter was reinstated on his immediate return, whilst Bravo continued to keep his place when he had a poor spell instead towards the end.

Cillessen being fairly young, NT starter, and Barca having overly invested in him suggest he's here to compete, and that Lucho will be more patient with him, than he's shown so far with MAtS. As for experience, MAtS and Cillessen, both have similar app @club level, except the latter featuring more for his NT. You could argue the dutch has played at a higher level by featuring in the WC, but MAtS has played the CL KOs in a winning campaign. So there is nothing much to separate between them. MAtS is more talented, but his overeagerness to impress could be his undoing, and I wouldn't be surprised if the quieter less audacious Cillessen earns Lucho's trust soon enough.

In anycase, I see you batting for Cillessen which means success guaranteed. :lucho:

Out of curiosity, how would you rotate the two keepers for the current season?

Then Lucho would had just kept Bravo and sold MAtS. Cillessen could turn out good, but I think he was brought just to be the backup. Flavs, In my estimation, Lucho did want to keep Bravo, but I think the Board decided to keep MAtS instead as they didn't want to face another backlash a la when Thiago was sold. Basically a very talented youngster, who much of the fanbase sees as the future, being sold to another Pep managed CL club. Just don't think Lucho rates MAtS as much as we like to think. He plays in the CL sure, but had Zubi been fired before the CL campaign began that year, I doubt if MAtS would have seen CL games. He was always a Zubi signing, one where he rebelled against the board as much of the board's wish was to bring Courtois at the time.

Zubi was close to Lucho as well, he pushed for him to be made coach. He wanted Lucho when Tata was appointed. MAtS was also set to start la liga, and Bravo to be the cl and cdr gk, before Song injured the german. I guess we'll see. I don't think they care about Thiago, either. And if the reason was to avoid backslash, they'd probably would've sold MAtS. Bravo is rated by the supporters, I don't think there'd be much problems with that. Bravo pushed for the move.

Yes. A compromise was made where Lucho and Zubi's respective signings were given an imp competition each. Let's say, Zubi was fired just after his appointment of Lucho, do ya still think Lucho would have made a 22year debutant as a CL mainstay? And I'm not convinced about those rumours where MAtS was earmarked for LL before his injury. If it was the case, Lucho would have just brought him in the side as he'd only missed two LL games in neither of which the keeper was much of a factor.
