Jean-Clair Todibo

Even with Rabiot and possibly Todibo coming we will have just 5 French players (Umtiti, Dembele, Lenglet + 2), it is not that many and not a problem at all.

It is only a problem if say Abidal prefers French players and only signs French players at the expense of other talents that we need.
Well to be fair, France is producing a lot of quality talents these days and it's hard to simply ignore as well.

It's much easier to find good talents in France at reasonable prices than for us to Go to Brazil and make a deal with a club for a player we don't know can be good for us or not while taking a Non-EU spot.

Says we're having talks with Toulouse over his transfer in January. If that fails, he'll come in the summer.

According to RMC, Todibo has chosen us. But they also state Manchester City had reached an agreement with Toulouse president, Olivier Sadran, regarding a January transfer but Todibo turned them down.

If this is true then maybe they would sell him to us too.

Why do we need to pay Toulouse to get him this month? He is not needed. Get him in the summer instead for free.

Because he's sent back to the B team. Paying a little to give him time to adapt with the team is a better solution.

But it is not like he is going to start playing for us next season. Getting him in the summer and loaning him out to a full fledged La Liga/Bundesliga team would be a better option in my opinion.

I suspect we are getting him now to leave some money for Toulouse as a token of goodwill, in case we buy from them again in the future.

Perhaps they'll pay them and loan him out until the end of the season so they'll actually start using him again. Him playing for the B team would be a waste.

We're not spending a penny on transfer fee on Rabiot and Tobido

Which is exactly the reason I say we won't miss the chance on those players because of Todibo, he is a low risk high reward type of transfer. Someone like Marlon in someways. I doubt he is a deciding factor in De Ligt deal for example

Plain stupid thing to say. Nationality has nothing to do with quality.

tbf, I don't remember it has ever worked great for us when we had a team with many foreign player of 1 nationality. The dutch and Brazilian experience were good league wise for short stint IIRC.
I don't have a solid argument against it tbh, but I really don't like it either

If we are paying minimal amount (1-3M for example) it will be an investment for the future

I was reading some impressions and from what people say, Toulouse is the main reason why Todibo rejected the contract extension. Apparently, the pro contract he was offered was pretty shitty even for someone his age. And when he rejected it, Toulouse tried to save face and placed him back into the B team.

He was good enough in his time for the first team that they didn't really miss Issa Diop as much who was also a really good talent.

Bridge-building as I suspected, right?

To some extent, but for the player too.
We will have a full control of him in the next half season, do whatever we think it is the best for his career and development. Whether stay in France, Barca B, Barca 1st team or another loan.

I'd like to state that I now believe Jean-Clair Todibo is going to turn out to be the next Raphael Varane so any comments I made against him shall henceforth not be used against me.

Start to edit those ones, otherwise BBZ will us it in another argument 5 years later.
Don't say I didn't warn you :dembele:
