Abla is the only one out of the Catalan amigos that can still play at a high level physically. He seems a simple guy, I think without the clan that he will work hard and play football, with no more tears (we can hope).

Busquets has proven that he still has value this season.

Pique is the big one to go because of his godfather influence. On his day he is our best CB. But those days were few and far between this season.

Adequately replace them? These guys aren't some good veterans that are so hard to replace. Alba and Busi are the ones who continue to contribute to some extent, so yes, in their case it's somewhat true.

But Pique, Roberto, Umtiti? These guys add nothing at all. Almost anyone could replace them. Mingueza, Garcia for Pique and Umtiti. Emerson for Roberto. Done.

Exactly. Even this season we looked like a better team without those oldies you mentioned. (Pique and Roberto especially)

Sure, we'd all want to switch the veterans with top class players who could elevate us instantly. But it's not realistic. Which is why we need to get rid of them even if the replacements are far form ideal. They can still run, be focused, and look fit at least.

I'll take even this basic form of improvement over watching our slow-ass veterans how they mimic playing football.

There's no other way to improve right now than by upgrading the manager and working really well on the scouting department. Really try to find ways to bring good players that are not highly rated by everyone already.

We have blown the chance to replace the veterans and have a seamless transition with quality class players under Bartomeu. About 3-4 years ago, when we started to pick up 3-0, 4-0 losses in CL like they were nothing. Back then we had a lot of money, revenue was closing in on 1bn, perfect time to upgrade the team in a smart way. But we had idiots in charge who sucked up to the veterans 24/7.

Barcelona has to play money ball, no way around it, at least until you get financial relief.
But money ball requires picking everyone right, everyone ready to contribute.
Once having that, we will be couple of world class signings frombeing top team.
Nit easy, but should be done

We won the Copa del Rey, which we are proud of, but we were knocked out of the Champions League early and have lost La Liga incomprehensibly from my point of view.

We lost la Liga incomprehensible, my president.

Imagine what Bartomeu would have said in a similar situation, we have a WC team & they will show it next season.

Just googled the movie, yeah it is about the guy who created that term :D

Billy Beane from Oakland Athletics.

I think they should've probably made a movie about Tampa Bay Rays as well. They're overdoing the A's and beating big market and big money spending teams like the Yankees and Red Sox in their division. They're consistently having a bottom 3-5 payroll in the league and their farm system (prospects from minor league teams) are constantly top 3-5 in the league. They have so much talent they can bring new players into the league to replace established players/stars they trade away (obviously getting more prospects in return) when they become too expensive. And tbh they're really cheap bastards but if it's working for them why not? :D

LFC is the perfect example

CL + PL wins were achieved by breaking the transfer records for GKs and CBs. they bought what they could up until then because they weren't in a position to buy world class players from bigger rivals.

you want money ball look at leicester. getting two unknowns in kante and mahrez and selling for bags of cash, while winning in the process.

This. LFC wasnt no money ball. THey simply lucked out. First, there was bartomeu who bought couthinho for huge amount of money. Who has no place in kloop system and woould have been on the way. out in 1 more year max. Couple of young players, then big money signigs GK and VVD who both worked out. Then more money on other role players.

And even then should have lost out on the only UCL they have in their era if we didnt completly shit the bed in the second leg
