How is it that we only attract mercenaries and Madrid always has players literally willing to give a kidney for the club?

Messi is synonymous with Barcelona. Literally the only reason he's not a midget is because of the club.

Yet the bastard didn't hesitate to squeeze us dry every 2 years with contract renewals.

Vinicius was about to be shoehorned to the side for a prettier toy and the motherfucker is still willing to extend his contract by 6 YEARS.

6!

Fucking hell

My takeaway from Laporta's interview:

- Tebas and La Liga are really trying to fuck us over and refuse to relent the salary cap, it sounds like nothing we can do (selling assets to whoever and CVC etc.) will help us increase the so-called "fair play", aka salary cap enough to make and register new signings.

- Bartomeu really left us with a mess when it comes to players' wages, with all the convoluted schemes designed to entice and retain these players.

- We don't want to sell key players but we might be forced to do so.

- More salary cuts are coming up.

- We like the CVC deal but even it won't help us raise the salary cap by much.

- We don't want to sell TV rights more than 10% but we might be forced to do so.

- We likely will slash budget for basketball (another year of big loss financially, us usual) and other sections.

Maybe Tebas would be willing to help us out if we weren't insisting on a project doomed to fail unless the EPL clubs reverse their decision to leave.

Already making tempering expectations :coffee:

President Laporta: "Future signings? We don't have any support from La Liga. The rules of fair play in Spain are very demanding and restrictive. It's a handicap that we will have to overcome." [via gol]

Are you surprised? Come on, it's fairly obvious we'll play 2nd fiddle to Madrid in the next few years.

To all those preaching 6th place or something, don't worry. We'll comfortably finish top 3. We've been La Liga bosses in the next 20 years or so. Have a back seat now...

It all goes in cycles. Since Eto'o and Ronnie era back in 2005 or so we've been dominating the league almost every year, and when we lost it, it was usually because some shady refereeing. Like in 2017 season for example, or some sort of freak Tamudazo like in 2007, or some offside bullshit decision in the last game of the season with the title in stake like in 2014.

The only 100% legit league losses in the last 17 years or so, prior to this season were 2008, and 2012. 2 in 16-17 years. Heck, make it 3. This is some sort of freak domination.

For me it's simple. Tough it out, get behind the team, and wait for better times, which will 100% come.

Signs are all there. 3 of our 4 best players are kids barely out of school, like Pedri, Gavi, and Fati. Most of these can barely drink a beer legally.

Barca have a good squad but it is progression and maximising that squad with some kind of nod to the future that want as much as challenging Real or winning next season as a base point.

Not the poor tactics of last few months.. buidling team around 'best DM in world' Busquets and similarly with Pique and Alba, not signing Alves at 39 and Roberto at 30 on contracts neither would get elsewhere, while chasing full backs in their 30s to back up the other full backs in their 30s.

Lewandowski at 34 on a big contract? Its a risk and potentially more of same.

There is no way Barca should be sitting back thinking cant compete with Real even if have little money to spend. While at very least if dont think can compete then build for future.

Laporta's biggest enemy are the fans imo. It really is not that big of a problem in the grand scheme of things if you go 2-3 years with just a top 4 finish. Come on, for fuck's sake, just clean the club in the next 2 seasons and approach 2024-2025 with a sane club financially.

That would be great.

Just put things into perspective. 2-3 years without a title is nothing.

The thing we should really be careful with is signing big-money players that flop, which is why Ferran is a big question mark. So far he seems like a 20m bet that we got for 2-3 times the money. Far from the ideal type of signing. If we do that, the damage will be big, as we'll be in a reconstruction continuously.

Madrid are playing CL final you know... with good odds on winning it.

If La Liga has 2 CL semifinalists out of 4... that's not really an indicator of the league being shit, is it?

Real will have to ride a fair bit of luck to win it.

Liverpool are the better side.

But they have dont that for x3 rounds already on balance of play and anything can happen in a final.

Fucking Rangers gave Frankfurt a better game than Xavis Barca could so all possible but fancy Liverpool assuming no big injury news.

It's closer than you think.

Not for me.

All fit Liverpool are confortably better but doesnt mean gteed win as Liverpool dropped points to worse teams than Real this season and aything can happen.

Real have conceded a ton of goals and been weak at back. Be surprised if can keep Liverpool out but they will know they are poorer technically and sit back.

Great stuff Luft, no reading and make your crazy conclusion from a statement then talking hot garbage on here, copying & pasting the facts as is, Good job.

He's saying what everyone who understands basic math is saying re the cvc deal, is freaking stupid, get $250m to pay back $750m? Only if you have no other choice do you take that deal.

It can't be said often enough how totally & completely bartomeu & his "board" fucked us over.

Laporta is between a rock & a hard place, which is why no matter how some complain about non sense, he is doing a great job under the circumstances.

2/3 more years of suffering.
